Another example is that PCs were not imagined as the logical progression of computer development. It was always the spoken command ‘Computer!’ aimed at a mainframe somewhere in the ship.
PCs are an idea that did not make it into any early SF, television, movies, or books. Funny, now we cannot imagine NOT having individual computing capabilities, it is as if the idea of miniaturization was never envisioned with regard to computers.
