Tempers surface at Republican meeting (St. John's County, Florida)

By the time the St. Johns County Republican Executive Committee began their pre-meeting social at 6:30 p.m. last night, Historic City News reporters found signs that there would be tension during the regular monthly member meeting.

St. Johns County Republican Party Chairman Harlan Mason announced that the meeting would be closed, except to elected officials, precinct committeemen and precinct committeewomen; following what he called a “credible threat” that unnamed individuals intended to use the occasion to disrupt the business before the organization Thursday night.

Several members of the St. Augustine Tea Party had arrived outside the Conference Center at Northeast Florida Regional Airport and were distributing literature objecting to two members of the Executive Committee who they say attempted to infiltrate their organization for their own purposes.

Historic City News has been reporting the internal conflict between the St. Augustine Tea Party and its leaders who have been at odds over who should be making the decisions. Former Chairman Eric West announced in a letter to Historic City News, published yesterday, that a new organization, the St. Johns County Tea Party, would co-exist with the St. Augustine Tea Party; although their approach to what he sees as a common goal will most likely be different. West, who hosts a weekly radio talk show “We the People”, reported to Historic City News that he serves as Chairman of the newly formed St. Johns County Tea Party.

There will always be a conflict between the fiscal only "conservatives" and those of us with social concerns. We've got to just keep standing fast.

Money attracts all kinds of scum, lots of RINOs around here.

We also have to be careful, though, of “Tea Party” people who have Democrat backings...remember what happened in Nevada? Some Demon-rat had the name “Tea Party” attached to him, but he was funded by Dingy Hairy Reed.

We had some of that in Florida too, sponsored by Alan Grayson.

"We had some of that in Florida too, sponsored by Alan Grayson."

But the honest Tea Party goups sniffed that one out immediately and deep sixed their plans. I am in Jacksonville which it seems like St. Johns County and St. Augustine are almost in the burbs now. This has been brewing for quite a while because the RINO party switching establishments types have control of the REC and the regular folks must be kept out. Much like the corrupt Palm Beach County REC shenanigans experienced during the last election for Governor and Senator.

There was a ittle bit of this in the Duval REC last year in regards to the mayoral election and we know how that one went now, don't we? One of the establishment switchers went over to the Democrat with her support after the primary and the REC was MIA until the very last chance, but alas, too late to salvage a Republican victory for the Tea Party endorsed candidate.

Voter apathy was incredibly high and we now have a Democrat Mayor in a deeply red area of the state. For those who do not know, Jacksonville and Duval County are one in the same as we have only one government for both.

I'm aware that some "republicans" supported and voted for Alvin Brown.

I'm more active on the FCTP site in Jacksonville than I am locally, the local sites don't encourage member participation.
