Odd how many Americans can agree with Christopher Hitchens on many issues, i.e. his rage at Henry Kissinger. I sympathize totally with such disgust.
The Hitchens contempt for the Tea Party, however, is the grandest dividing line, largely due to the tea Partys fervent belief in God and its faith in Sarah Palin whom Hitchens repeatedly heaps fear and loathing on.
Hitchens, however, warns the world to not patronize Sarah Palin!
He points out that his favorite film on American Presidential politics is Gore Vidals The Best Man.
With an almost bottomless irony of ironies, he further adds that at one time Ronald Reagan was considered for a role but he was dismissed as insufficiently Presidential.
Therein lies the substance of his concerns about Sarah Palin and her Presidential Insufficiency.
It also strengthens my faith in the fact that Sarah Palin will, indeed, be Americas next Ronald Reagan and more.
The more, Im certain, is what most terrifies Christopher Hitchens.
His contempt for America and anything classically American is so deep it makes him blind. He traipses out the history of the 19th Century Pledge of Allegiance, smugly noting that the words under God didnt reach the Pledge until the 1950s. He finds it funny that Palin cross-referenced the Pledge of the Allegiance with the Declaration of Independence.
God reached the Declaration of Independence in the 18th Century. In that profoundly obvious sense she was totally correct in saying she stands with the Founding Fathers.....

Hitchens and his ilk’s hatred for all things Sarah surpasses all wonderment. A lesser person than she would have simply vanished long ago.
his fear of Palin is because Palin is a Christian. Atheist reaction to Christians are like vampires to a cross
If you through through history, most Presidents, certainly recent Presidents were all guys who at one time the experts and pundits all said had no chance whatsoever to be President.
Obama, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Nixon. They were all written off and given little if any chance of winning at one point in time. W was an exception where he was favored from the start and most people thought he had a great chance.
RINOs seem to hiss and smoke around Palin, too. Maybe they don’t need arguement; they need exorcism...THE POWER OF SARAH COMPELS YOU!!
*heads spinning vomiting split pea soup* “Mommy, what happened?...I had a horrible nightmare...I dreamed I was campaigning for Romney...”
Palins ACES after 4 years = more tax revenue for Alaska http://bit.ly/n3nvqb
Hitchens has always struck me as the typical foreigner who sees in America what he wants to see, neglecting the fact that millions of other people with different histories and experiences live here. I suppose it has to do with living in a world of ideas instead of an actual one. The many foreigners I “talk” with online can’t seem to grasp what diversity really means when I oppose gay marriage, support the death penalty, etc. I, of course, am always bigoted, discriminatory, et al.
Atheist vs Charity....
Well... Hmmmm, maybe if they are shamed into it!...
They may give your money to a library or PBS... or other BS Network..
Atheists are not known for charity they are known for dictatorial systems like communists, fascists and anarchists.. or progressives..
But there may be some atheists with a smidgeon of charity in there(their heart) somewhere....
it may happen from time to time..
The dog could almost have told you the story, if he could talk, said the priest. All I complain of is that because he couldnt talk you made up his story for him, and made him talk with the tongues of men and angels. Its part of something Ive noticed more and more in the modern world, appearing in all sorts of newspaper rumours and conversational catchwords; something thats arbitrary without being authoritative. People readily swallow the untested claims of this, that, or the other. Its drowning all your old rationalism and scepticism, its coming in like a sea; and the name of it is superstition. He stood up abruptly, his face heavy with a sort of frown, and went on talking almost as if he were alone. Its the first effect of not believing in God that you lose your common sense and cant see things as they are. Anything that anybody talks about, and says theres a good deal in it, extends itself indefinitely like a vista in a nightmare. And a dog is an omen, and a cat is a mystery, and a pig is a mascot, and a beetle is a scarab, calling up all the menagerie of polytheism from Egypt and old India; Dog Anubis and great green-eyed Pasht and all the holy howling Bulls of Bashan; reeling back to the bestial gods of the beginning, escaping into elephants and snakes and crocodiles; and all because you are frightened of four words:
He was made Man.
Cheers!
“typical foreigner”
Limey no longer, Hitchens is a naturalized US citizen.

hasn’t this bastard died yet?
There’s a christian sentiment. Good for you!
Shaw said it best: divided by a common language. I like the English, but think that we have more in common with the Germans.
Poor bastard.No. he has not died yet. God willing he will not face God with a “no”in his heart.

Ah, but don’t fall for a mere piece of paper-Habits of thought start much earlier in life. BTW, the leftists who hate Hitchens over his Iraq stance say that he exchanged his green card for a gold one....
“hasnt this bastard died yet?”
My thoughts exactly. I think he’s generally taken a turn for the worse in recent months and supposedly lost his voice a while back, but continues to pen nonsensical columns. Wish I could harness some forgiveness for this monster and his crimes, but I just can’t at this point. Maybe after he croaks.
Don't waste your time "talking" to foreigners online about America.
Attempting to explain America to them is equivalent to explaining algebra to a hound dog -- they just won't and can't "get it". American ideals, ethos, etc. just doesn't compute to most them.
I guess it’s because we speak the same language that we’re disappointed when the “other” believes or acts differently. Tell me, why do you think we have more in common with the Germans?
—SIGH— I guess you’re right, but I have it in me to argue. I’m a woman after all...
