The same morning that radical Islamic terrorists destroyed the twin towers, the Islamic Leadership School in the Bronx opened its doors for the first time.
"I don't remember much," said student Ameena Drammeh, 14, who was just 3 years old on Sept. 11, 2001. "I just remember everyone running around [the school]. I remember all the phones ringing."
As New Yorkers mourn the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the only Islamic school in the Bronx will mark a decade of promoting goodwill between Muslims and non-Muslims.
"Because we opened on 9/11, we know 100% that Allah wants us to be a catalyst for peace," said Sheikh Moussa Drammeh, 49, who founded the Parkchester school with his wife, Shireena, 40.
"There is absolutely no reason to kill each other."
In the weeks after 9/11, the school hosted community forums on Islam, denouncing the extreme ideology of the terrorists, and collaborated with the Interfaith Center of New York to educate non-Muslims about moderate Islam.
The students continue to participate in public events, preaching peace on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and inviting non-Muslims to celebrate Muslim holidays at the school.
The school runs an exchange program with Jewish schools in Manhattan, and produces a television program on religious tolerance for Bronxnet.
Housed in a former NYPD garage under the Westchester Ave. el, the cash-strapped school shares the ramshackle building with a mosque, a day-care center and a karate dojo.
The K-12 school lacks heat, a library, a computer lab and playground; it has a concrete floor and battered desks and chairs.
Before moving to Westchester Ave., the school held classes in a former church rectory, an empty school bus and a local park. But Shireena Drammeh says she is proud of what the school has become.
"Here we are, looking back at the hard times, thankful for what we have," she said.
"We don't look like a school, but our parents know they don't have to worry about drugs and gangs and all that nonsense here," her husband added.
The school emphasizes religious study and prayer.
"I like it here," said student Amin Saleh, 11. "I like coming here to read the Koran."
The school represents the diversity of the Muslim world. Its 45 students and seven teachers hail from Senegal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Hungary and beyond.
Student Fatima Balde, 12, was born in the Bronx but her parents are from Guinea. She attended public school until last fall.
"I like it here better because the classes are smaller and we have time to pray," she said. "There were fights at my old school, and I used to hang out with bad kids."
Fatima is too young to remember 9/11, but learned about the attacks at her old school.
"My teacher said the twin towers were hit by two airplanes and it was Muslim people," she said. "I told her that not all Muslim people are bad like that."
Following the attacks the school helped comfort a student whose father - Abdoul Traore, a restaurant worker at Windows of the World - perished on 9/11.
Muslim kids in the Bronx are sometimes teased and called "terrorists" due to 9/11, Amin said. But the Islamic Leadership School teaches tolerance.
"We learn about other cultures," Fatima said. "We can all get along."

May I suggest the allah get off his lead ass and do it himself? His proponents aren't exactly inspiring in their efforts.
And he can say that with a straight face because 'peace' means something completely different to Mohammedans. Islam, as the former president infamously informed us, means "peace." More accurately it means submission to the will of Allah as expressed in the koran.
So, re-read that quote substituting the word 'Islam' for 'peace' and you understand perfectly Moussah Drammeh's meaning. Actually, it makes far more sense that way.
There are no “good ones”. But they would like you to believe that there are.
The core belief system is evil . Islam is evil. One cannot believe in evil and be ‘good’.

It is nothing more than a death cult...to think otherwise is insanity.

These statements are a LIE, whose entire purpose is to DECEIVE non-Muslims and under Taquia, it is perfectly legal for Muslims to LIE to infidels.
As for “Allah, the most compassionate, the most merciful." Allah, the "god" of Islam is neither compassionate or merciful. In reality he is the god of blood, slavery and death!:

According to Mohammed and Islam, EVERYONE who does not believe that "Allah" is god, or that Mohamed is his "prophet" is an "infidel".
According to Mohammed and Islam, all us "infidels" have only one of THREE choices:
1) We can convert to Islam by choice or by "force" = "convert or you get a sword to the throat or a bullet to the head".
Oh, you don't like "choice number one", then you get a second choice under Islam:
2) You can become a SLAVE; owned by Islamic "masters" and subject to Shariah law (you know, that wonderful system of dehumanizing, barbaric, 7th century "law" where they cut off hands, kill women because they have disgraced themselves by allowing themselves to be raped, women have to wear head scarfs or be covered from head to foot, stoning, beheading, you know all that fun stuff).
Ok, you don't like "choice number two" either, then Islam gives you just one more, third and final "choice":
3) You can DIE (We will KILL YOU) for your infidel "faith" or lack thereof.
They habitually throw “Islam” means “peace,” in our face... that is another LIE they are permitted to tell us infidels!
The above three "choices" are the ONLY choices Islam offers all us infidels: Conversion, Enslavement or Death, this is the only so-called "peace" Islam offers anyone that Islam deems an "infidel".
There is no "misplaced blame", there are no "Muslim stereotypes", only the TRUTH about the blood thirsty so-called "prophet" Mohammed, their blood-thirsty "god" Allah and Islam, his false "religion" bent upon conquest and subjugation of the entire world through, Jihad.
Someone has aptly said: "All I need to know about Muslims and Islam, I learned on September 11, 2001."
Sadly, America has learned NOTHING from 9/11/2001, America and Americans have gone back to sleep and are living like 9/11 never happened. All the while this barbaric "religion" is making serious inroads in America. I recently received the following account from a friend who recently moved from New England to Florida. The enclosed "incident" happened on their way down when they stayed at a hotel in VA:
"We were shocked to see how northern VA had changed since we lived there. We stayed at a hotel in Tyson's Corner about a mile from where we used to live in Falls Church. It was a Saturday evening and we went out to walk around since we had been in the car all day. We came back in a rear door to the hotel where the conference rooms are located and you will never believe what we happened upon. It was a huge meeting of Muslim men associated with the Imam Al-Kisai and the Institute of America. They were praying and we really got some glaring stares.
I had read that there were Madrasas in Falls Church, VA but I never realized that it was happening in the neighborhood where we lived. I felt that I sensed evil while we were there. I don’t know if that was in my mind or a reality, but it was a strange feeling."
