Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to escort a flight from Los Angeles to John F. Kennedy Airport Sunday afternoon after three passengers refused to come out of a bathroom.

The flight landed safely after 4 p.m.

The Transportation Security Administration said in a statement that it was "notified of passengers allegedly behaving suspiciously" onboard the flight at about 3 p.m., and that the jets were scrambled "out of an abundance of caution."

"Law enforcement met the flight and will interview passengers," the TSA said.

The passengers on American Airlines Flight 34 went into a bathroom and were "not compliant," a security official told NBC New York.

Didn’t think I needed the sarcasm tag.

“I don’t know how three men could fit into an airplane bathroom.”

I don’t quite get how even one man can fit into an airplane bathroom.

Can three people fit in a lavatory?

I doubt it. Once I flew with my GF and another female friend, and we decided to play a little prank on the flight attendants. The flight was nearly empty, so they were just sitting in the galley most the time chatting.

I went into the lavetory with my GF for a few minutes, and got a glare from the flight attendants on the way out. Then, I repeated the process with the other gal... and really, really got some looks from the flight attendants.

Anyway... with just 2 of us in there, I don't see how anyone could do anything other than just stand there... squeezed into that tiny space. Three people... no way.

Hmm. Airline bathrooms are so small that a person can bearly squat in peace so how did three dudes get in there?

Andrew Dice Clay has a unique conclusion to that.

I once watched a british cartoon and in one episode, the couple took a flight to somewhere else in Europe. The cartoon made fun of every single aspect of air travel except the food because apparently there was nothing funny about it.

Well,,, in this case, you should have used one! Several other posters on the other thread, thought the jets followed all the way from the West Coast. The snippets used were very unclear.

I believe it. The “meal” on Air India was swill.

I can’t even imagine how terrifying it must have been on that plane.

Dirty muslims, I would wager.

Probing, testing, probing, testing...

Lather, rinse and repeat.

I like the idea of “exit” only via the planes exterior. If they’re noncompliant in the bathroom why would they want them back inside.

If they were Muslim, it could have been one man and two young boys...

They don’t refer to Islam by religion but by one of their tactics. Ever heard of the War On Terror?

I like driving, too, and the drive to “The Villages” from here is only an hour or so longer than the total time for flying, from door to door ... and that’s if everything goes perfectly with the flights.

A person could have a legitimate reason, like a stroke, for not leaving the bathroom when ordered.

The Muzzies thought it was a phone booth that needed a world record during prayer time and assumed the Nose-To-@$$ position. From thereon it was difficult for them to “come out of the water closet”!

It’s been my experience that a three hour flight these days takes an entire day. When I’m flying to an island, I don’t have a choice, but if not, I’d much rather drive. This is a wonderful country, and I don’t think that I will ever tire of exploring it. :)

Charlotte to Orlando is about an hour and a half air time, but it’s more like 7 hours clock time to my parents’ door under ideal conditions. For longer flights, I can’t imagine getting the time away from home to drive anywhere, but this is so close to break-even that it’s easily justifiable.
