Ah, you bring up “imputed income”.

HAHAHA! Sucks, don’t it?

For the lurker, that is why an unemployed vice president pays more child support than an employed tow truck driver.

—In a divorce action , “Child Support” is nothing more than a ‘re-distribution of wealth’.—

I will add that in a divorce action, the state becomes intimitely involved in the lives of both parties and the kids. You are no longer your own. You are watched and carefully regulated.

“and the wife and teenagers are lost, emotionally devastated and then hubby says “Get a job””

So what. Remember, you said it was about the kids... Sure it’s tough for her, but maybe she shouldn’t have gained 100 pounds and let herself go.

—Once you get behind on child support, etc, you WILL be denied a passport if applied for, or do they actually revoke passports if you already have one?—

It fits the “evil plan”

1. Incent women to divorce their husbands at all costs.
2. Lots of women take you up on the offer causing a significant minority of the country’s marriages to end in divorce.
3. Nail the guys for hefty child support, though it is not enough for the woman to be beyond lower middle class or downright poor.
4. The financial burden on the husband also cripples him financially.
5. Take away his passport if he misses a single support payment because that identifies him as a “flight risk”.

The result: We all live in East Germany behind a big virtual wall, slaves to the state. Woo hoo!

It does look like someone almost planned it this way.

I agree, this is basically what happened to my son. He had savings, his wife got it all and that was after he paid off her credit cards once and paid off her vehicle. He had to pay “Maintenance” IOW, the new fancy name for alimony.

He literally got nothing and they went after his drag racing car because they thought that was worth a lot but it was just an old car with a borrowed engine and borrowed tires he gave them back to the owners. She got it but it wasn’t worth anything and he made her have it towed off because it was hers.

When the economy tanked in 2008 he went from 60 hours a week to 40 or under and between paying off the lawyer bills and child support just barely made it.

The ex provides a roof over the heads of the children and literally not much else. They have food as long as the food stamps hold out. I buy their school clothes and their winter coats, she won’t even buy them school supplies and she works, by choice around 4 hr a day, 5 days a week. She has a Master’s in education, my son paid for the bachelor’s.

No, it isn’t fair, judges break the fathers and then an economy like this comes along and they wonder what happened.

“The judges are looking for “the good of the child” without regard to justice, or any other considerations.”

Wrong: The judges are just looking to feed the pockets of the lawyers, the case workers, the nanny state. Every action is anti-child/family and anti-society.

Don’t forget the restraining orders that the wifey’s get even though there is no history or proof of abuse. They get them cuz, of course, a guy can hurt a woman but da wittle woman is helpless and so must be protected...just in case what she’s saying is true.

Oh, get this, somehow my son’s ex’s lawyer just accidently filed a judgement against my son for ex-DIL’s legal fees although he wasn’t responsible for them. Even though he had had a credit check it didn’t come up until he was getting ready to buy a house. We found out that he would have lost his ability to challenge it if it had gone past 6 years. Thank God, he decided to buy a house. It had already been 5 years. But it was just a mistake, you know. Yeah, right.

The article references mothers who were jailed for failing to pay support.

Oh yeah, it’s a picnic for the women. sarc They get to care for the children, 24/7 while the men are out sowing their wild oats, not showing up for visits, trying to control the women by withholding what little child support does get awarded.

You appear to be generalizing either first-hand experience or that of someone close in this area.

From my observations, it's the women who dump the guy in order to "sow their wild oats". I've had several friends get dumped by their wives for this purpose.

One took a job at an upscale tennis place, got a wealthier guy who was a customer there interested, and dumped my friend, taking the kids and saddling him with child support. Another was fine with her husband as long as he was a well-off business owner, then divorced him when the business went bust. Another ran off to Louisiana with a musician.

I've seen a LOT of women only stay with their husbands only until they decided that his future potential doesn't seem that hot, and then decide to trade him in so they can try their luck with a wealthier or more exciting guy while they still have their looks. This stage tends to peak when she's in her 30s. Then there's the stage where she decides that the marriage assets have grown respectable and decides to cash in. Among the people I know, the ones where the wife leaves to look for a "bigger, better deal" outnumbers the ones where the husband wanders of by about 8 to 1.

We need divorce reform in this country. If both parties don’t agree, no divorce.

Considering that women initiate the vast majority of divorces, here's a simple solution that will drop the divorce rate considerably: "You want out? Fine. The other spouse gets the kids, though. Have a nice day."

Glad everything always worked out so perfectly for you, bub.

sorry to disappoint the losers, but I've had eight different jobs in the course of the last 20 years. Didn't sit around feeling sorry for myself, but went looking for something.

Debtors Prison, except mostly for fathers, not mothers.

The states get federal dollars for child support enforcement.

Therein lies the motive.

People's circumstances change and the United States actively encourages women to get divorced - its a win-win for the “state” and the mothers. I say mothers, because it is 92% of the time that the father loses custody of his children. Of course this makes sense, since he makes the larger income and the state is mostly feminists.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It is a free paycheck for state and the mothers...they get, for 24 years.

Up to 64% of the father's income - TAX FREE, under the table.

Free medical insurance for herself and their children...the state never will worry about paying for them.

Free Dental coverage for herself and their children....the state never will worry about paying for them.

Free life Insurance policy on the father....the state never will worry about paying for them, if the father dies.

1/2 tuition at the college of HER choice for their children....the state never will worry about paying for them.

Free babysitter service e/o weekend (father's visitation).

Free state and federal enforcement of the court orders....the state never will worry about paying for them.

The State picks up federal dollars for child support dollars collected. It's in the states best interest to have extremely high support calculations.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow, just gotta love America's freeloading mothers, huh! And the idiotic people who have some kind hate for parents, like yourself.
