Tip O’Neill said, very wisely, that all politics is local. Weprin (the Democrat candidate) is an orthodox Jew and recently said some things that have upset the orthodox Jewish leadership in his district. As a result, several Jewish leaders have endorsed Turner. Former Mayor Ed Koch, a very respected politician in that part of the city, has also endorsed Turner.
The Obama malaise has hurt Weprin among the independents in the district, but his comments and the endorsement of Turner by local leaders looks to be making the difference in this race.
Weprin doesn’t even live in the district. Not to worry. He will still win with close to 60% of the vote. This is just another one of those Charlie Brown and the football moments that arise during election time. We will all be disappointed again. Yes, all politics is local and the Dems run things in NY.
