WASHINGTON (AP) — In a sharp challenge to the GOP, President Barack Obama proposed paying for his costly new jobs plan Monday with tax hikes that Republicans have already emphatically rejected. The reception to his new proposal was no more welcoming, setting the stage for a likely new fight with Congress.

Flanked at the White House by workers he said the legislation would help, Obama declared, "This is the bill that Congress needs to pass. No games. No politics. No delays." He sent it to Capitol Hill saying, "The only thing that's stopping it is politics."

$405 billion from limiting the itemized deductions for charitable contributions and other deductions that can be taken by individuals making over $200,000 a year and families making over $250,000

Absurd. Raising the taxes on an activity reduces its frequency. People who have money know or hire those that know where and how to move it into other things that qualify for itemization. The net result will only be fewer charitable donations and less government revenue.

He does this with the full knowledge they will not be passed. That way, he can demagogue the issue.

Total income tax receipts by USA 1.5 trillion. He has to increase taxes by 1/3 to pay for it.

But he said in his speech that his jobs program was already paid for. I wish America didn’t have the attention span of a gnat.

If the Republican leadership was smart (unlikely) they should pass the stimulus on infrastructure, Whit the provision that bids would be open to everyone, not just the union, which now must be hired for any Gov. work. The unions would scream, and people would see how much the Dems looked out for them. They would have to explain why they were against it.

Of course. He doesn’t WANT it to be passed. Concessions to unions, tax increases, make-work programs - he had to make sure that the Republicans would shoot it down. This jobs bill is, in reality, only about ONE job.

Where is Nancy and Harry on this historic piece of crap? No, I think Obama needs to go back to Kenya along with his uncle. Maybe somebody there will listen to Obama!

Agreed. That would be a good move, plus the tax cuts. Then send the bill on to Dingy Harry and the Senate to kill. They need to explain why they value payoffs to union cronies over jobs and tax cuts for the American people.

It would kill all charities that depend on big donors. That’s what Obama wants: to have government as the only charity.

That was my thought as well.

He's using this "American (snow) Jobs Act" as a war on the Bush-Obama Tax Rates. Those are set to expire anyway in 2013 when these proposed increases, along with ObamaCare tax increases and the expiration of the phony baloney "payroll tax holiday" all take effect.

2013 will see a BOOM in the tax burden and, with these specific increases, an undermining of our charitable safety net in favor of the State. Once again Obama furthers the cause of Statism and dependency upon government.
