Yes I too am excited about Rick Perry's "welfare is a Ponzi scheme" speech. Even more so over the fact that, far from frightening off the voters, his honesty appears to be making them more enthusiastic. The problem for Rick is that his stout words are in severe danger of being eclipsed by an even finer speech by Sarah Palin at Indianola, Iowa. (Thanks to Richard North for drawing it to my attention). It was so inspirational, so true that it prompted even her traditional enemy the New York Times to ask:
Is there a hint of a political breakthrough hiding in there?
I think there is. I think if she goes on like this, all bets for Perry, Bachmann, Paul are off. I think President Palin might just be the only game in town.

"Now to be fair, some GOP candidates also raised mammoth amounts of cash, and we need to ask them, too: What, if anything, do their donors expect in return for their investments? We need to know this because our country cant afford more trillion-dollar thank you notes to campaign backers. It is an important question, and it cuts to the heart of our problem."
It's those last remarks, I think, which could prove the game changer. In the past Palin's opponents have found it all too easy to pigeonhole her as a right-wing fringe candidate, far too loopy to connect with mainstream America. But here she has found a universal narrative, of potential appeal to voters on both sides of the political divide. Whether we're on the left or the right it really makes no difference: we're ALL being shafted by a system over which we have little if any democratic control.
And Mama Grizzly, for one, has had enough of this charade. .

I’m wondering if Sarah is working off the same page as Catherine Fitts. This is an hour long video that is hard to interrupt - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHTs6NqhHHg&feature=player_embedded
Well, suppose the voters don’t elect the candidate backed by the big-money boys? Then no payback is required.
The current big-money candidates are Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. If the primary voters were to go for Bachmann, say, or Herman Cain, then the candidate would be free to craft policy for the benefit of the nation as a whole.
The politics of the past have failed, a new mold is needed, and it is here.
They didn't break if after Sarah, She IS the new Mold
Mitt offends me.
For some pompous, arrogant, elitist blow-hard to state that you shouldn’t speak the truth; because you might ‘frighten’ voters; that tells me that he holds me in utter contempt; as a gutless, spineless, brainless parasite. Psychologists call this projection.
I will ALWAYS prefer to be told the truth, rather than a lie. A man with integrity would understand this very basic concept.
I think that’s the point!
thanks for stating that so succinctly. you really hit the nail on the head.
Corporatism is evil, of course. But isn’t even worse to have politicians raid the treasury to give goodies to the permanent underclass to buy their vote? Half of workers do not pay any income tax. Without any skin in the game, they quite happy to vote for demagogues pitching “tax the rich” and “fairness” schemes, ie, Democraps. This is even more deep rooted and perverse than corporatism.
SARAH PALIN OR BUST
Gov Palin is the only hope! You mentioned Bachmann who basically stole Gov Palin line on crony capitalism.
Bachmann is done
You said it in a nutshell (Post #9).
From Amy Siskind at The New Agenda:
The Pundits Are Wrong: Palins Got the Best Shot http://tinyurl.com/6jbrwxc “Because the 2012 election will be about turnout, the Republicans need to foster high levels of voter enthusiasm and engagement. If they do not, then Obama will likely be reelected. Recall that Obama pulled over 8.5 million more votes than McCain in 2008, meaning he can lose five or six million votes and still win, if the GOP selects as un-exciting a candidate as McCain was.The GOP needs conflict and competition not comity and civility. They need a war, not a border skirmish. The GOP needs to inject as much uncertainty into the race as possible by picking an electrifying candidate and putting more states in play. They also need someone whose message is not so extreme that they actually depress votes among those Republican-leaning Independents. They need Palin. She is adored by those aligned with the Tea Party. She brings out crowds like no one except Obama. Unlike Perry, she holds some policy positions with wide appeal (only surprising to those in the mainstream media who failed to take note of her political career and track record in Alaska). She is running in third and she has yet to even announce. Palin is also the embodiment of what my work (Jockeying for the American Presidency) found successful aspirants are in the Modern Party Era:
Those
perceived by their fellow partisans as charismatic leaders with strong ideological visions and as outsiders who would shake up Washingtons insider (read: broken and corrupt) culture (pg.220). Since 2008, Palin has helped remake the Republican Party. Now its time for the GOP to wake up and realize that shes the only one positioned to take them to White House this cycle.”

BUMP!
She is my next President.

Frankly, Rick Perry is going to be Sarah Palin's crony capitalist pinata. This is what she has been waiting for...isolate - pinpoint - and destroy.....It is clear now that Bachmann can't get enough traction and will serve as SP's battering ram to take out Perry. As Santorum is taking out Paul. Which will leave Gingrich the task of neutralizing Romney......BTW did you hear Gingrich flapping his gums in favor of SP last night? I think Newt is smelling the cordite of the Palin artillery and wants to discuss terms!!
“So, do you want to know why the permanent political class doesnt really want to cut any spending? Do you want to know why nothing ever really gets done? Its because theres nothing in it for them. Theyve got a lot of mouths to feed a lot of corporate lobbyists and a lot of special interests that are counting on them to keep the good times and the money rolling along.” ~ Sarah Palin September 3, 2011
Are you suggesting a Palin/Gingrich ticket?
Newt's more likely to cuddle with Romney on a sofa in a TV commercial.
