Rick Perry executes justice, Texas-style
The Guardian UK ^ | 9-13-2011 | Amanda Marcotte

Posted on 09/13/2011 9:19:31 AM PDT by humblegunner

When Rick Perry threw his hat into the ring for the Republican presidential nomination, it set off such a collective cringe among liberal Texans that it likely scored on the Richter scale. Being a native Texan with basic respect for modern civilisation means living in a constant state of low-grade humiliation, as the state's size provides an interrupted stream of news stories highlighting the cranks and Bible-thumpers who win state and local offices – but a presidential campaign means exponentially expanding the amount of national and international attention paid to the streak of mean-spirited ignorance that rules Texas politics. With Rick Perry, this means a whole lot more coverage of the fact that Texas is the "killingest" state in the entire union, having executed more than four times as many prisoners as the next contender in this gruesome contest.

Of course, we of the non-barbaric sort do hope that all this attention paid to Rick Perry's willingness to execute anyone on death row – no matter how obviously screwed over by an imperfect and often unjust judicial system – could somehow provoke enough national shame that we actually do away with the death penalty. Which we really need to do, not because we have any great love for vicious murderers, but because the death penalty is a known destroyer of a fair and sober-minded justice system.

For you stooges at the "Guardian" your elitist contempt for our freedom is the very reason we had a little thing called the "American Revolution". It is amazing to me that anyone in England or Europe can look down their noses at the "Bible thumpers" who saved England from invasion and freed most of Europe from Hitler. But I guess we should not expect anything more from a Leftie wrag like the Guardian. (wonder what they are guarding? hee hee hee)

I say Texas should send the next in line for execution to live with Amanda Marcotte. He/she will probably be BEGGING to be executed after about a week.

A Post from His Humbleness? LOL

All I did was look at the publisher and knew it was going to be a hit piece.

I’m glad the British wore red as their uniform so we could identify them and kick their limey azz out of our country.

Still, they have been good friends and Rick Perry would have a considerably better, No, stronger relationship with the British.

The author claims to live in Texas. I guess she had to
shop around for someone to publish her cheeky lil' "article".

Amanda Marcotte blogs every day at Pandagon.net, and
contributes a weekly podcast to RH Reality Check. She
lives in Austin, TX with her two cats, boyfriend, and
environmentally correct commuter bicycle

Sounds like quite a piece of work, she does.

Anytime I see the phrase "bible-thumper" , I stop reading right there.
That tells enough about the TWIT.

Ooops! Didn’t realize the writer was European Idealist who probably spends her time extoholing the viritues of European Morals, which in my mind are pretty dang’d weak.

Further, the Europeans are manipulative Plicks. They use our military, our men and women as tools for their avarice, international policy and enforcement.

If Libya is damn important to the French and Germans they should be the sole aggressors and crow they are the leader in destroying Mo’s reign.

But, nope, it will be a US military operation, which was armed and directed by American munitions.

We should never fight for the French again. They have screwed us on so many things like espionage, Vietnam and now Libya, which will become a hell hole for Moslem extremist.

They have replaced the bad with horrible.

I thought leftists believed that all cultures are equally valid and should be respected? I guess that doesn’t include Texas.

. . . The comment section should be fun.

Yup, I looked at some and found this one a little over the top.

"Texas is still very much a frontier (mentality) state and I think Americans should be ashamed to be lumped with the likes of Saudi Arabia, Iran and China."

Haven’t been over there yet. There are usually a few Americans (OK, well ME, mostly) who enjoy zinging the very stupid Ms. Marcotte. Sadly, she recently relocated to NYC and continually spouts off ignorantly about my fellow residents. Stupid in two states. Drives me nuts.

P.S.: She was very sad to see Anthony Weiner leave office.
