All vaccines run this risk.

I thought Bachmann claimed mental retardation.

“It’s impossible to say at this point whether these girls would have developed the condition regardless of whether they received Gardasil, but government officials—who still strongly maintain that the vaccine is perfectly safe and potentially lifesaving—are now starting to investigate.”

If Bachmann stated that Gardisil led to this condition then the add on to the headline is an emphatic lie. If she said that it may have led to the condition then the add-on is not a lie.

Which is it?

Bachmann was interviewed today and her account of the claim about the hazard of vaccine was that she was recently talking with a mother who made that claim about her daughter’s reaction to a vaccination. She stated that she was not a medical professional and wasn’t making any claims, only repeating the experience of a third party.

Deborah Kotz, senior writer for U.S. News & World Report, covers everything women care about when it comes to their health. She's often tapping out "Oprah-esque" confessions about how the latest news relates to her personally—whether it's on breast cancer, contraception or easing work-family stress.

I would like to get this to Jonah Goldberg who pooh-poohed Michele Bachmann’s remarks last night on the debate about this subject. He made his comments tonight on the FOX roundtable. I can’t find any contact for him.

All of our kids are under forced vaccinations orders - if not by the federal government, certainly by states who require them for school attendance with few exceptions/waivers.

I certainly do hope and pray this comes to the attention of those who could put a stop to it; from the CDC and pediatricians to state legislatures.

All vaccines and medications run the risk of being dangerous to any one given human being.

Michelle Bauchman shot from the hip, which is characteristically becoming more and more her style.

She really starts almost screaming her dialogue. She is pretty self-absorbed in her self- I have Core Values-I was the only one-I raised 5 kids and 32 foster children-

More anti vaccine BS citing a nobody at US Snooze on the issue. She even summarizes that she has no clue. Why no one looks to people with education in this field. This is what Henry Miller had to say at NRO today:

In the extensive clinical studies (on more than 20,000 girls and women) that were performed prior to the FDA’s licensing of the vaccine, the vaccine was 100 percent effective, a virtually unprecedented result. How safe is the vaccine? No serious side effects were detected; the most common side effect is soreness, redness and swelling in the arm at the site of the injection. In summary, Gardasil has one of the most favorable risk-benefit ratios of any pharmaceutical.

I also guess you would think that the Polio and Small Pox vaccines were dangerous. Hit Perry on the mandate, which is not the way to do anything, but let's get some education on the actual vaccine.

This is pure claptrap.
The author herself says there is no evidence that Guardasil was responsible for the ALS.

I remember a lot of hysteria over the MMR &, later, the chickenpox vaccines. Not so much anymore & those vaccines are still being used.

The Governor’s Executive Order (RP 65) that caused all the controversy also ordered the director of DSHS to make it easier for parents to opt out of vaccines. The Legislature had changed the law from “opt in” to a requirement to “opt out” once for all the school years. Next, they changed to a two year limit on the opt out, and then in 2005, the Legislature restricted the period to one year and required a new State form bearing a “seal.” Parents had to go to Austin or start early in the summer. There were bureaucrats who maintained that the only way to get the form with the seal was to go to Austin, find the right office and make the request in person. Perry used his EO to tell the Director of DSHS to make the request (and the seal) available on-line, making it easier to “opt out.”

Did he bypass the Legislature? Yes. Was there any sinister, tyrannical intent behind it? No.

I have reasons to scrutinize Perry as a potential nominee. This issue isn't one of them.

I actually posted a pro-vaccine comment earlier today, although I said I didn’t really think THIS vaccine falls into the category of protecting the PUBLIC health.

However, it is true that with some of these newer vaccines the side-effects, or suspected side-effects can indeed be worse than the disease.

Assume for a moment that these girls’ conditions were triggered by the vaccine. First of all they may never have contracted HPV at all. Secondly it may not have developed to cervical cancer. Thirdly, there is treatment for cervical cancer, there’s none for ALS.

There is an ad that I’ve seen on TV, I think it is for a vaccine for meningitis. It states on the ad that Guillain-Barre syndrome is a potential side effect. That is the total paralysis sometimes called “locked-in” syndrome. I think I’d rather take my chances with meningitis.

I know a fellow whose father-in-law died of this. They actually think he got it from getting the H1N1 flu shot.

There is NO reason to make the gardisil vaccine mandatory. NONE.

I'm sorry, but this poor family is simply wrong. The cause of ALS, in all its forms, was discovered just last month. It turns out to be metabolic, a failure of protein recycling. It has nothing to do with the immune system or anything else a vaccine could affect. Their "Post hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy is dangerous because it discourages people from getting a good vaccine and leaves them vulnerable for the real risk, the carcinogenic strains of the HPV virus and their less common life threatening sequelae cervical cancer. 12,710 cases and 4290 deaths from cervical cancer are what the American Cancer Society estimates will occur in 2011. It also infects men and does cause some cancer and deaths amongst them. Even in the worst delusions of the anti-vaccine zealots annual deaths from complications of the vaccine will be far less than that.

Now that researchers have found the real cause of ALS we can ignore all the wrong guesses put forth by desperate families over the years and concentrate on fixing the real problem. My only fear is that liberals will metaphorically extend this real cellular recycling problem into calls for more typical 'green' nonsense.

Bachmann lost her support last night...she conducted herself in such a manner...most have lost complete respect for her. She teamed up with RINO Romney...and lost....if she’d have conducted herself in the manner taught to her as a believer...she’d have come out on top instead of on bottom....this is what is called crashed and burned...

I'll say it as I did on another thread. This article like the lawyer ad used as “evidence” of Gardisil’s dangers on the other thread is bereft of factual evidence and relies on anecdotal cases and the flawed belief that because A came before B, A caused B. [someone help me with the Latin phrase please]
Weeping makes for a good show, but facts are longer lasting.

Bachmann isn’t right.

She said mental retardation, not this.

Gardasil causes death in some cases.

Of course, Bachmann made a couple of errors, but it was certainly good and right of her, and Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum to attack Perry because of this.

No one who ever did what Perry did should ever be President.

It was ridiculous that John King asked Bachmann if Perry’s apology satisfied her. As if what Perry did was insult Bachmann, not show what a terrible person he was.

Gardasil is disqualifying for Perry.
