So, is this a trap situation? Trying to get her to deny it, then pointing out that her denial shows racism if she said "I could/would never do that"?

If she is asked, she should not duck this. She should do as you said “she will neither confirm nor deny”. That way she leaves it out there that it MIGHT be true. Win, win. Shows her to not be a racist, without admitting anything.
