Obama: Immigration reform requires changing the law

Washington – President Barack Obama said that while he can lessen some of the injustices in the current U.S. immigration system, real progress requires changing the law.

His obligation as president is to enforce the existing law, Obama said in a White House roundtable with correspondents from Efe and other Spanish-language media outlets.

Recent changes in deportation policy that prioritize expelling undocumented immigrants who committed crimes are not sufficient, according to the president, who said the problem cannot be resolved through "administrative" measures.

Amending the policy on deportations will not achieve the path to citizenship for undocumented migrants "that I believe must be part of the solution," he told the journalists.

Obama said his administration will continue to press for comprehensive immigration reform, one of his 2008 campaign promises.

His failure so far to deliver on that promise is one of the factors that have sparked a drastic drop in support for the Democratic president among Hispanic voters, which according to the latest surveys stands at 48 percent, compared with 67 percent in 2008.

The president, however, told the media roundtable that Latino voters will not punish him in 2012 for his not being able to persuade Republicans in Congress to do the right thing on immigration.

Turning to the economy, Obama said the jobs bill he sent to Congress on Monday will have an "enormous impact" on the Hispanic community.

Part of the program, $15 billion, will go to investment in infrastructure, something that will benefit Latino workers with their strong presence in construction.

And the more than 1 million Hispanics without jobs could see their unemployment benefits prolonged, the president said.

Hey Barack! Listen up! The current immigration worked fine for 250 years when it was enforced. Something you treasonous bastards fail to do.

Actually, it worked fine until 1968 -- when Teddy Kennedy changed it, eliminating the quota system and introducing chain migration.

Then, in 1986, he made it even worse -- making the crime of illegal immigration a misdemeanor.

With regard to immigration law, Congress would be advised to repeal every immigration act that Teddy Kennedy was associated with and write a completely new body of immigration law.

Scenarios:
A sheriff’s deputy walks into a house and finds:
(1) a guy making counterfeit U.S. $100 dollar bills...
(2) a guy making moonshine...
(3) a guy sawing the barrels off of shotguns...
(4) a guy who crossed the U.S. border illegally...

All 4 of these things are a violation of “federal law”.
The deputy is authorized to arrest #1, #2, and #3;
but he is prohibited from arresting #4
because immigration law is a federal responsibility?

I simply just don’t get it.

In his own words....”will benefit Latino workers with their strong presence in construction”......he’s putting illegals to work.

Anything that might be wrong with our immigration system can be safely blamed on Teddy Kennedy.

It was as if he was on a one-man "Wreck America" mission.

This is why you don’t want a Democrat to have an elected position higher than city dog catcher. You cannot trust them to enforce the law, they are forever looking to not enforce the laws so they can create a class of people forever dependent on the government. They would push grandma off the cliff if it meant a few extra votes in the next election.

Not that Perry is much better - he panders to illegals, and despite this, the Latinos will not vote for him if he wins the primary. Why would they vote for a Democrat-lite (Perry) when they can have the full enchilada (Obama)?

In my opinion, both of his older brothers were almost as bad. The “acorns” didn’t fall far from the Joe Kennedy tree; supporter of the Hitler movement and bootlegger during the era of prohibition. ....The oldest son of old Joe may have been the only good one, but Joe Jr. unfortunately died due to injuries while serving in the military.
