(Reuters) - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned Pakistan on Wednesday the United States would "do everything we can" to defend U.S. forces from Pakistan-based militants staging attacks in Afghanistan.

My buddy on the scene in Kabul, a retired marine officer and civilian contractor, says that the mastermind behind the attack was Charlie Wilson's old buddy Jalaludin Haqqani.

He just moved up to number two on the SpecOp target list, after Zawahiri.
