My own theory is that Netanyahu was having remarkable success travelling around the world meeting with government leaders to oppose the Palestinian Authority’s bid for UN General Assembly recognition of an independent state of Palestine.
By forcing the demonstrations now, Netanyahu’s successful trip had to be cut short so he could manage the domestic problems caused by the protest.
