Egypt PM: Israel Treaty 'Not Sacred'
INN ^ | 9/15/11 | Gavriel Queenann

Egyptian prime minister Isam Sharaf told Turkish television the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty wasn't sacred and was subject to change.

Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf on Thursday said the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty is not sacred and is subject to change.

"The Camp David agreement depends on what benefits the region," Sharaf said in an interview on Turkish television, adding, "Egypt will make changes to the treaty if necessary."

Sharaf's statements follow the popular sentiments of the street in Cairo, but altering the treaty would require the consent of all three signatories - Egypt, Israel, and the United States.

Contrary to Sharaf's rhetoric, however, Egypt's caretaker junta has consistently downplayed the chances of such a move due to sharp opposition from US officials, and Israel.

Making such a move without Israeli or US consent would likely lead to a loss of the billions in US aid dollars underwriting Egypt's regional muscle and could lead to a war with Israel over the Sinai.

Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty is not sacred and is subject to change.

I sure hope so. Israel taking back the Sinai (all the way to the Suez) would be a good start.

Give Gaza back to Egypt and wall the place off. Then they become Egypts problem. Let Egypt provide, water, food, gas, medical care, electricity for the Palis.

So will the nobel committee take back their "peace prize" to Jimmy Carter when the egyptians break the treaty and attack Israel?

Doesn’t work.

It give the the soon-to-be Islamofascist government of Egypt a jump off point that is practically inside Israel; and if you bomb a bunch of Pali rocketeers, you’re attacking Egypt...

But cutting the Palis off from food, medical care, fuel, water, and electricity until they start paying for the same would be a good start.

If a treaty can be changed at will then the US no longer has an obligation to send Egypt any money.

Also: when you have a go at Israel, don't be building any houses near the Aswan Dam. I'm just saying.

My prediction is Turkey & Egypt are going to cause the next 3 day war. Unfortunately for them it will be more like a 3 hour war. The only holocaust this time will be the Turkish and Egyptians frying from the nuclear blast.

When you cornered you have no choice but to attack.

This is getting scary for the Isrealies.

“Also: when you have a go at Israel, don’t be building any houses near the Aswan Dam.”

I think the Aswan dam is causing many more problems than it has solved. The Nile is badly silted. The regular floods kept down the instance of snail parasite-born illness, and the dam has stopped the regular infusion of rich mud which has kept down agricultural output. The lake behind the dam is silting up. Not to mention, evaporation was orders of magnitude greater than anticipated. Getting rid of the dam might be a good thing.

I guess the memory of Egypt's ass kicking in the Sinai is fading.

Curses! No wonder the Germans were smiling the day after the Dambuster raid.

All those towns and industry washed away, yet our far-sighted foes were thinking of the long-term improvements to soil ecology :0)

"Egypt will make changes to the treaty if necessary."

And Israel will make changes to the mobility of the Egyptian army and air force if necessary.

Note to the Egyptian PM:

Three words: Aswan High Dam

Think about it.
