Similar to raising taxes for less revenues genre...

Two facets of the same phenomenon, although taxes aren't prices. People economize.

I did have the 2+streaming at $16.11.

Under the new price, I now have 1+streaming, and my bill jumped to $17.18.

I am still contemplating whether to drop the DVD and just keep the streaming.

I kept my Netflix account. I gave up 2 Starbucks lattes a month instead.

Just make sure that your computer is protected. I did this a a couple of weeks ago and got a nasty virus.

Just do a google search on “free online tv movies sites” and you will be untethered from Netflix forever.

I think I might have a new business model for Netflix.

This is because both of their current models, for mailed DVDs and for streaming movies, are under a lot of threats.

To have a new business model, they just need three things. First of these is a memory chip that can contain, say, a dozen movies. But this Netflix chip is a special memory chip, that can only be plugged into a Netflix card reader. This card reader then communicates with Netflix for the particular DRM code needed to unscramble each movie.

This means that instead of mailing all those DVDs, Netflix just programs a chip with the next dozen or so movies in your queue. So even if the US Post Office goes nuts, Netflix can use one of the other carriers.

Previously, it was $8 for streaming, $8 for 1-at-a-time DVDs, $10 for both. They eliminated the discount for both; if you only did streaming or only did DVDs, there's no difference.

They have been throttling me for the past 4 months. It actually got a little better the past month. It was so bad that I would mail a movie, wait 3 days then file a lost DVD notice in order to get another one.

Thanks RB.
I do not use streaming but do get 1 DVD at a time. So enjoyed the Mad Men series and a wonderful Danish movie ‘ Kinaman ‘ or ‘ Chinaman ‘.

No TV or cable so I'd really be up a creek if Netflix upped their prices. Heavens knows I can not afford too much entertainment these days!

A friend has streaming and just the other day I was visiting. I looked through what was available using the stream but sure was not impressed.

I started reporting the lost DVD's too..

Too bad, used to love Netflix, now I'm just irritated --- and there is enough irritation in my life (with the big zero), so Netflix has got to go.
