Inevitable, I suppose, but still kind of a shame. I always liked the Crown Vic. My dad owned a couple in his day. Great car to just eat up the miles on a long highway trip.

I can’t believe I won’t even be able to buy anything close to a Town Car.

They compare SUV and big-car (ha ha - ‘79 is when they were last truly big; these are medium cars to real afficianados) mpg but fail to mention the big difference. SUVs tend to be either/or; big cars - truly big - could carry a full load of passengers AND luggage, out of the weather. SUVs can carry alot of people but then, no luggage.

I was hoping maybe my next car would be a Crown Vic or so; I hope there is another car somewhat like it.

The best cars we ever drove were Crown Vics and Lincoln Town Cars......that’s when the kids were growing up and the vacation trips were great in those cars. Now that we’re old (hehee) we’ve moved on to Toyota Avalons.

Crown-Vics are good machines.

Better mileage? Show me a car that can carry 4 adults comfortably, and haul stuff in the huge trunk, and still get that. My folks came to visit, brought my grandma, and a trunk full of luggage and gifts for the kiddies, and got 25 mpg running at 75 MPH most of the time. My Santa Fe, with a four-cylinder, won’t even do that (two adults, two kids, and loaded full going 75 MPH).

The last Ford Crown Victoria rolled off a Canadian assembly line Thursday,

Yes, and it shall be mine in 6 years or so.

Ah yes, the Road Warrior! Hubby had a Crown Vic, then a Mercury Marquis about 15 years ago. Both our older sons learned to drive in them, and loved them! They were like tanks!

It’s a shame.

Crown Vics were always so recognizable...

in your rear view mirror.

Our local cops around here are running the new Chevy Imps and the Tahoe/Yukons. They have one Crown Vic left. Sheriffs are all Imps and Tahoe/Yukons. Troopers are still all Crown Vics and Tahoe/Yukons (2WD).

If you want a large wide gas-guzzling vehicle with interior room from days of yore, then go test drive an F-250 Crew Cab. I swear you will fall in love all over again.

Today is a black armband kind of day. I have the tarted-up Mercury equivalent, the Grand Marquis; it’s 12 years old now, but I will hold onto it until it dies (in other words, so long as I keep the road salt off of it, I’ll probably be bequeathing it to my kids when I die). There is nothing like the Crown Vic, and I doubt if there will be again for many, many, many years.

Ford sold about 80,000 Crown Victorias and Town Cars combined last year, said Tony Gratson, Ford's manager for government fleet sales. Those figures just weren't enough to support a factory capable of producing 250,000 cars a year.

So 80,000 units isn't worth the effort? Downsize the factory why don'tcha? Or is this really 80,000 vehicles @ 24 mpg wreak havoc with Ford's CAFE requirement?
