President Obama will give his third back-to-school speech on Sept. 28, the White House announced. It will be at Washington's Benjamin Banneker high school.

"The President’s Back-to-School Speech is an opportunity to speak directly to students across the country," the White House said in a statement. "In past years, President Obama has encouraged students to study hard and take responsibility for their education, urging students to set goals, to believe in themselves, and to be the authors of their own destinies."

LOL. These back to school speeches were already somewhat Orwellian - might as well go all out this year!

What is cool is that exposure kills Obama’s numbers. This is something I believe he and Sarah have in common actually.
In that both have large and visceral opposition. Over exposure is a delicate thing to manage and Obama never learns. The bee sting approach works far better than the hammer to kill the fly when you have so much name recognition and too many enemies. You seem to need to buzz in and then quickly buzz off to save your numbers.

“The President’s Back-to-School Speech is an opportunity to speak directly to students across the country,”

Clinton did this too. Take AF1 and dozens of people to some school, do a half-hour speech, go to a Dem fundraiser that just happens to be nearby, then another appearance at another fundraiser, two meetings with local Dem campaign organizers then fly home in AF1.

Without the speech in a school, it would be charged to campaign expenses.

Who started this? I heard that every President from Reagan to Obama has done this. I would like to know who began this nonsense.

One thing Obama has in common with totalitarian rulers is his predilection for giving speeches. And the reason is that, like dictators, he has to keep giving the population pablum in the form of future hope and change to keep them quiescent and prevent opposition from forming. However, at some time the population becomes tired of hearing the future promises, becomes restless and opposition arises. This is what is happening now and the outcome won't be good for Obama.

OH cool, another back to school speech.
Just another opportunity to remind high school kids just who fouled up their futures. My high school age son told me that during last years speech a bunch of kids started in with the John Belushi cough. bull....cough cough bull....

The issue with Obama's first speech to school children wasn't the fact that he was speaking to school children; other President's had done that.

The problem was the lengthy set of 'suggested' teaching materials prepared to accompany the speech, available by grade level. The teaching materials contemplated as much as a week of sessions, writing letters to yourself about what you could do to help Barack Obama, writing a President's biography (specifically suggesting Obama) that was to include elements of . . . well . . . worship or adoration.

After all of the complaints, the teaching materials (which had been available for some time) were officially 'removed' the day of or the day before the speech, but most teachers would have already downloaded the materials and prepared their lessons plans.

And yet the media played hide the ball and mentioned only that conservatives were upset that the President was speaking to school children, leaving out that the complaints were primarily about the pro-Obama worship propaganda that had been prepared as a week-long lesson plan.
