Feinstein Weak In Poll, But No GOP Challenger Yet
Joe Garofoli, September 16, 2011
Two years ago, two major Republican campaigns swarmed the California GOP fall convention, confident that they could drum up the support to beat three-term incumbent Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer, who was considered vulnerable because of her low voter-approval ratings.
This year, as 1,000 GOP activists gather today in Los Angeles for their fall convention, things are different, as even the California Republican Party chairman has no idea who will take on 19-year-incumbent Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein next year - and no major candidates have stepped up.
But the landscape may change soon, analysts said, given Feinstein's recent campaign money problems and a Field Poll released today that gives one of California's most consistently popular politicians a 41 percent approval rating, the lowest of her Senate career.
One person considering a run, The Chronicle has learned, is Michael Reagan, a former conservative talk-radio host and the son of former President Ronald Reagan.
Republicans may consider a challenge to Feinstein less foreboding after the survey of 1,001 registered voters found that 39 percent disapprove of Feinstein's performance and 20 percent have no opinion.

GREAT!
20 percent have no opinion.
Those are the worst. I mean if those 20 end up with Feinstein than she has 59 percent. Why are people so vague? Those 20 percent always screw up every election. I know the 20 is a bit high in this case, but those decided are the reason it is so difficult for the candidates to know how things will end up.
“One person considering a run, The Chronicle has learned, is Michael Reagan, a former conservative talk-radio host and the son of former President Ronald Reagan.”
Run, Michael! Run! :)
That percentage probably should be quite a bit higher.
I am willing to bet that better than 40 percent of the population have absolutely no idea what their Federal representatives are doing in their name.
Most of the people I know have little interest in what goes on in Washington DC. A good many people I know go out of their way to remain ignorant. The news papers spend more ink on sports than they do the activities of our Federal Governments activities.
This disproportionate coverage of sports is hardly surprising to me because the papers annually poll their subscribers to ask what the subscribers want to see more or less of in the paper. So we know what consumers of news want to read about from themselves.
Well so much for the longest existent constitutional republic. The people of the republic dont care what their representatives are doing it wont be a republic much longer.
I wonder if the CA GOP, even with the Reagan name, can garner those contributions.
I will contribute what I can...but he's got a long slog ahead of him.
I even wonder if he can gain support of the CA GOP. They are rudderless and without any core conviction on any subject.
However, his timing could not be better.
Go Michael!
I miss your radio show.
Steve Young...I THINK he might be a pub....would beat her easily...it would pull all the normal people out to vote...LOL

REAGAN would be fantastic to see on a ballot again!
I imagine many would be tempted to vote for him just based on love for his dad. . .
I hope he runs. I want a “Reagan” bumper sticker on my car.
Steve Young is a good idea; Californians love him. Don’t know his politics, if any, though.
Sad to say, one of the four state conventions of the CA GOP is being held in Los Angeles this weekend. This is the platform convention - and the platform committee has a whole new liberalized platform they will be pushing. I fear it will pass, simply because too few real conservatives are left in the state to become part of the party voting block to keep the state GOP conservative.
It's the old saw of the liberal GOP this state has had for too long - they think they can attract more votes looking less conservative. What dunces they are! That has failed miserably every time it has been tried.
The CA GOP must be a weak mess if they have no one on board to challenge the 2012 senate seat election. Always run a challenger as you may get lucky and score a win.
Id LOVE for Michael Reagan to run..its about damn time we get rid of Feinstein..and she can take Barbara Boxer and Maxine “Fannie and Freddie are fine” Waters with her..kick them all to the curb..maybe then this state would actually have a chance..oh almost forgot Waxman, I saw a picture of a rodent and remembered him. It would be SO great to vote for a Reagan in this state again
He says yes i open my check book
Feinstein and Boxer win because they have Hollywood and Big Jewish (think Barbara Streisand, Steve Spielberg) donors, Planned Parenthood; EMILY’s List, the GLBT (Chaz Bono supporters); SF Chronicle, LA Times, Porno Industry captains, Silicon Valley perverts, SEIU, CTA, ACORN, Hispanic, ACLU, Sierra Club, and the Black vote.
These are the crooks that have run CA to the ground and the country as a whole.
I’m sure it was supposed to be Schwarzenegger. Oops.
He could probably finance his entire campaign off of bumper sticker sales alone!
Supposedly he's a RINO. His wife had signs in their yard opposing Proposition 8 in 2008.
