Why Obama should withdraw
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 18, 2011 | Steve Chapman

Posted on 09/18/2011 4:28:27 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, his slogan was "Morning in America." For Barack Obama, it's more like midnight in a coal mine.

The sputtering economy is about to stall out, unemployment is high, his jobs program may not pass, foreclosures are rampant and the poor guy can't even sneak a cigarette.

His approval rating is at its lowest level ever. His party just lost two House elections — one in a district it had held for 88 consecutive years. He's staked his future on the jobs bill, which most Americans don't think would work.

The vultures are starting to circle. Former White House spokesman Bill Burton said that unless Obama can rally the Democratic base, which is disillusioned with him, "it's going to be impossible for the president to win." Democratic consultant James Carville had one word of advice for Obama: "Panic."

But there is good news for the president. I checked the Constitution, and he is under no compulsion to run for re-election. He can scrap the campaign, bag the fundraising calls and never watch another Republican debate as long as he's willing to vacate the premises by Jan. 20, 2013.

That might be the sensible thing to do. It's hard for a president to win a second term when unemployment is painfully high. If the economy were in full rebound mode, Obama might win anyway. But it isn't, and it may fall into a second recession — in which case voters will decide his middle name is Hoover, not Hussein. Why not leave of his own volition instead of waiting to get the ax?

It's not as though there is much enticement to stick around....

You are 100% correct.

That's why Zippo has to be forced out and make it look like the repubs did it.

Then Hillary gets to play the race card.

Hillary cannot run against 0 in the primary because that will guarantee 0 black turnout in the general.

So she needs minions like this to encourage Obama to "do the right thing" and step down.

Hillary does OK in polls because Americans don't like to hate people and she isn't running for anything.

But if she does end up running can you just see her trying to defend Obama's foreign policy for which she was responsible?

I don’t think Hillary has the physical ability anymore to do it - she has neither the stamina nor the appearance.

The Democrats can't impeach the Obama as that would destroy their black vote and cause all sorts of internal party problems.

It wouldn't be impeachment, it would be a primary challenge like Kennedy did to Carter or Buchanan did to Bush I.

But yeah, it would destroy the black vote for the Dems.

Obama’s election has been the best thing to happen to conservatism in the last hundred years. He should run.

Maybe so, but check out the Sunday Morning Talk Show thread.

Bill Clinton is appearing on most of them this morning.

With Bill Clinton, you've always got to consider his motives in doing anything.... So why is he suddenly appearing? There is no particular Clinton related event going on this week or next.....

He's starting the Hillary! campaign.

Never misunderestimate the Beltway GOP’s ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory - by nominating Myth RomneyCare.

Then why did I see this on Hot Air this morning: Rasmussen: Obama 46, Perry 39? I’m on record as not believing polls but this is a bunch of crap!

Hillary is not popular, but I would not be too surprised to see her beat the current crop of GOP favorites. Frankly, if we’ve got to suffer through every day for four years of a Hillary Presidency, then it might as well be now, because we aren’t going to get much better from Romney or Perry.

More evidence of “Barking Dog Syndrome”.

American Spectator ran a great article this week about this. It documents how 11 first term presidents were doomed to failure and no second term when loyal members of their own party, grass roots support and, in the case of dems, the media, start barking at them out of sheer frustration.

It’s a fatal syndrome and this article is best evidence yet that Obama has contracted it.

I don’t think it’s her popularity. I think it’s the Dems desperation. They put everything they had into Obama.

Who else are they going to run? Pelosi? Sharpton? Kerry again? Harry Reid? Algore? John Edwards?

Hillary is their option.

“Hillary could conceivably win the general...”

Exactly, probably 20% of Bambi’s votes came from Morons whom voted for him for no other reason that he was the flavor of the week (he is black) with no thought about whether he could do the job. Same thing would happen with Hitlery ( Wow! a Women President, Way Cool!)
