Democrats Balk at Obama Tax Plan (Rats throwing Obama overboard)
fox news ^ | 9/19/2011 | By Chris Stirewalt

President Obama’s idea for a millionaire tax is hardly new. It’s a favorite idea in cash-strapped Democratic states like Maryland and New York and some version of it has been part of Obama’s economic agenda since his candidacy.

Obama is doing something different today, though, as he proposes a 4.5 percent surtax on those with incomes over $1 million in addition to his plan to raise taxes on individual incomes over $200,000 and reduce charitable deduction rates for high earners.

What’s different is the timing.

Obama kicked off his fall campaign swing two weeks ago today with a Labor Day speech at an AFL-CIO rally, followed up with an address to a joint session of Congress and then an aggressive swing-state schedule. His goal, repeated again and again, is to cast himself as an activist on jobs compared to a Congress that won’t act.

His explicit threat is that while the economy may not be getting better, voters will know it’s the Republicans’ fault. It was a strategy that initially thrilled the president’s supporters – the kind of in-your-face, confrontational style that they have long urged Obama to adopt.

The problem, though, has been that the president’s stimulus plan has mostly received a bipartisan shrug in Congress. When the best Obama can get as an answer to “pass this bill today” from Sen. Dick Durbin, the number two Senate Democrat, and longtime friend and home state senator is, “sometime next month” one gets the sense that the blue team is not feeling the fierce urgency of now.

Wonder if Obama knows what happened to the last Democrat that ran on promise of increased taxes?

THE FIERCE URGENCY OF NEXT MONTH, after vacation...

Democrats could give a damn less about CREATING JOBS..
This is about owning the ISSUE for the campaign, and nothing else.

To some extent I think he may know he’s going down and he’s just preparing himself a soft-landing, lucrative job and/or cache with the left-wing money for his days as an ex-president. He’ll be even more ubiquitous than Carter or Clinton.

“and reduce charitable deduction rates for high earners. “

which would absolutely destroy charities that actually help the poor

And rather than talking about stimulating the economy, Obama is explicitly talking about flattening income inequality.

pretty much sums up Obama - punish success

I know a very wealthy Democrat who just gave a substantial amount of money to Rick Perry. This is stunning to me. The Democrats with $$$ will be leaving Obama in droves. At the end of the day when you have someone that is threatening your money and your family you must protect them. This latest home invasion by the administration is scaring a lot of Democrats. Democrats with money. Big money.

Glad to see mention of the People’s Republic of Maryland, a democrat-controlled, surveillance-ridden, PC, sanctuary state.

Yeah, that will be our curse. Obama, the ex-president, will NEVER go away. He will be everywhere and comment on everything, all the time!

Oh gawd. Imagine in late 2013 when the economy is reviving again (thanks to saner and lesser government regulations and major revisions to the tax code) Obama is still stumping around with his message. It could make me want to barf up the meal I just ate.....

How many times did Barry the Imposter tell us during his overly-long campaign for the 2008 election that he would NEVER raise taxes on persons who earn less than $250,000????

That's the European work pattern -- little actual work, lots of vacation time.

This latest home invasion by the administration is scaring a lot of Democrats. Democrats with money. Big money

Not so much big money, but medium money. The guys like Soros and Buffet don't care. They have billions and can buy favors and special treatment. But the the 30-50 something crowd earning $500,000 to $1 million a year are having a hard time of this. They used to be democrats because they lived in the city and wanted to be seen as being sensitive or caring. If you you were a mean republican you didn't get invited to the right kind of parties. Slightly higher taxes were viewed as being just another expense like a new BMW or Club membership. Just something you did to show off your status.

But now their million dollar a year bonuses aren't showing up any more. Their stock portfolios are in the crapper. Their big house is in foreclosure because they can't pay the mortgage and the property taxes. They don't have a Buffet's money to buy special favors so Obama's tax increases hit them full force.

In essence Obama has hit the point where people were willing to pay a certain amount to get into the popular club. But now the price of membership has gone way up, and the club is looking a bit seedy.

In addition the club is letting in people like Jimmy Hoffa Jr. and SEIU thugs. These are Starbucks Socialists. They want to hang out at the Internet cafe an talk global warming, gay rights and green solar powered utopias with fellow upper class twits. They don't want to sit next to some smelly longshoreman and listen to his profanity filled rant. That just doesn't seem as cool. The snobbish social climbers certainly aren't gong to want to pay to hang out with that type of lower class riffraff.

I wonder how this is setting with his glitterati friends in Hollywood who routinely take in millions of dollars for reading what someone else wrote and pretending they are what they really are not...and never could be? Bet they will start forming even more Swiss/Cayman/offshore corporations to shield their income. The Brit actors did it years ago...why not the USA pretenders?

A humiliating one-term loss is needed or the media will annoint him king of the world.

Actually, even with a humiliating one-term loss the media will rehabilitate them if they could.

America decided Carter couldnt cut the mustard after we got the hostage crisis going on and on...

the debt crisis and he latest flailing is equivalent.

But only WE can defeat Obama.

He’s surrounded and shielded by people of like mind. I bet they filter all information to him. And he barely works or seems concerned about his job as it is. He probably never even hears of opposition to his plans.
