Milwaukee council bans guns from city-owned buildings

Guns will be banned in Milwaukee City Hall and other municipal buildings when the state's new concealed-carry law takes effect, the Common Council decided Tuesday.

Aldermen voted 14-1 to post signs prohibiting dangerous weapons in city-owned buildings. Starting Nov. 1, the state law will let residents with permits carry concealed weapons in most places, including public buildings, unless the property owners post signs outlawing them.

Ald. Willie Wade, one of the sponsors of the resolution, said guns had no place in debates on the council floor and in committee meetings.

I have been to City and County Commission meetings where there are contentious things being discussed.

There is no shortage of armed government employees there to protect the omnipotent ones.

Who is there to protect the victims of whatever it is they do?

If they are only implementing signs and not installing magnetometers and armed security, I would carry anyway or never set foot in the place.

Are there “non-dangerous” weapons?

Yeah. There are. They’re made out of foam. Even *I* laugh at the people who use them, and I’m a pretty big nerd. :-)

Oh, and there’s whatever the people in England are legally allowed to own. Seems like whatever they had came in oh-so-useful during the recent riots.

WI Constitution, Art I, Sec 25 —
The people have the right to keep and bear arms for security, defense, hunting, recreation or any other lawful purpose.

So, they wish to say that the people have no right to bear arms inside the city’s buildings?

...any other “lawful” purpose...

So I guess they mean that there is not anything lawful going on in that place...

But then again the people can always vote these numbnuts out of office...[snicker, like that’ll ever happen]

Note that the word OTHER implies that there are some lawful purposes already, and that would be those preceding in the list, among which are the keeping and bearing arms for defense.
