The National Council of La Raza recently called for their boycott of Arizona over S.B. 1070 to end. There was a ton of media hype about this boycott last year, and the threat sparked some big BUYcott efforts by Stand With Arizona and others (here, here, here and many more) to urge like-minded Americans to support the states economy against what was expected to be a major coordinated attack.
Indeed, La Raza, the AFL-CIO, SEIU and others spent a ton of time and money to push their boycott. We pushed our efforts too. So how did it all work out? Well, SWAs AZBuycott page and site has received over 8 million visits since it launched on May 15, 2010. We urged people to buy Arizona products and most importantly, to come to Arizona with their families, associations and businesses. We dont know how much it helped, but we do know we got million of hits and tens of thousands of supportive emails.
So how much did La Razas high profile boycott hurt the state?
What boycott?
La Razas first high-profile objective: to cancel the MLB All-Star Game, was an epic failure.

Ask Gov. Perry.
The only thing The Race had going for them is the local yokel Ken and Barbie “news” readers regurgitating night after night that the boycott was hurting Arizona’s economy. Unfortunately, no one ever bothered to tell the mascara and pastels crowd on the local “news” that the whole U.S. economy was in the toilet. It wasn’t just Arizona.
La Raza? What race? Mexicans are Europeans, they speak a European Language, have a European religion and have European (Spanish or Basque) surnames. Neither Latino, Hispanic nor Mexican is a race.
Thanks for reminding me. I knew there was a reason I went, with 2 others, for a Powder Horn training. Now my daughter wants to go for a Wood Badge training. No offense to our council, but the Grand Canyon council rocks!
Most Mexicans are NOT European, but a mixture of European and native blood or full native. There are a small percentage of Mexicans who are whites and are of Spanish blood (you can see them on Telemundo), they rule the country, but are not the majority.
