As The 'Un-Candidate,' Palin Tests GOP Patience
NPR (We pay for it, so we might as well read some of it) ^ | September 21, 2011

A supporter holds up a sign as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin speaks during the Tea Party of America's "Restoring America" event at the Indianola Balloon Festival Grounds in Indianola, Iowa.

September 21, 2011

Author Joe McGinniss has been out this week promoting his new book about Sarah Palin — a book widely condemned for gossipy allegations by anonymous sources. The book is getting attention in part because Palin might be running for president.

This summer, Palin certainly looked like a presidential candidate as she rode through Iowa and New Hampshire in a red-white-and-blue bus, but as time ticks away the pressure is building on Palin to make her candidacy official.

... The race is absolutely wide open — it remains wide open.

- Peter Singleton, Organize4Palin

Technically, Palin can put off becoming a formal candidate for at least another month or so. The first registration deadline to get on a primary ballot isn't until Oct. 31 in Florida. After that, the deadlines come quickly in important states like South Carolina and New Hampshire. But when it comes to the earliest test for candidates, the Iowa caucuses, there is no formal registration.

One more bit from the story:
From the article:
Strawn says, in theory, anybody can win the Iowa caucuses — declared candidates or undeclared — but that's theory.

"Practically speaking, because it is such an organization-heavy process where you need to have leaders in upwards of 1,800 precincts across the state, it's not something you can put together in short order," he says.

But if anybody can do it in short order, it's Palin. The state director for another major campaign says Palin could probably do it with "a couple of phone calls." And then there's the shout-out Palin gave at the start of her recent speech in Indianola, Iowa.

"It's so good to see the O4P and C4P people here!" Palin shouted to the crowd.

For someone who isn't a candidate, NPR sure dedicates a big position on their homepage this morning to Sarah. That has to annoy the actual candidates.

Screw the GOP! It has shown NO loyalty to Sarah, period, and so she owes the party nothing. She'll announce when she's ready and not when the party wants her to.

Next for GOP leaders: Stopping Sarah Palin

To the headline: not mine. If Palin runs I will vote for her, if she doesn’t I’ll vote for someone else.
I can say I love how she is playing the MSM in particular and liberals in general. (Oh and the Repubs who have Palin derangement syndrome.)

The establishment GOP is as much the problem in this country as teh far left Democrats as far as I’m concerned. So Sarah is testing their patience? GOOD!!

That McClatchey poll with her closing in on Zero must really have the libs in an angry sweat.

Always use the level of media attacks as a barometer of a candidate's effectiveness, declared or not.

agree.

but the gop had never liked sarah palin.

in fact, much of the initial 2008-09 media contempt for her

came from rinos.

such as karl rove, dana pe-rino etc.

Ol Joe McPenis is now avoiding questions about his hit and run accident while he was up in Wasilla. He ditched his overdue rental car, then reported it to police as stolen after it was towed away. Unfortunately for him, the Wasilla police wanted to talk and ask questions about some other things.

Guess Joe McPenis just overlooked putting this little factoid into his adventures in Alaska book.

It seems like the “deadline” is October 31. At least to run in the GOP.

Lots of folks have gotten very angry b/c I predicted that she will not announce anything by the end of this month.

Nine days till the end of this month. We’ll see what happens...

(all in all, a great story, though...to be sure...)

Some have written that Palin would split the conservatives with Perry, to the advantage of Romney. I’d be willing to take that bet. Perry is rather feeble in debate and a Palin announcement might collapse his balloon altogether.

Still...while I’m betting, I bet she’s decided not to run. Probably family concerns, and the anguish from disgraceful, indecent attacks. She looked so unhappy on Hannity last night (so did Hannity, btw). Something’s going on we don’t know. Hope I’m wrong. Perry’s better than Romney like a bucket without a handle beats one with a hole in the bottom.

Perry needs carrying. Sarah Palin DOES carrying.

This is the money comment of the entire thread! In a year when our RAT “president” should be in single digits, he’s still circling the bowl at around 40% largely because of the past behavior of the GOP. If we don’t get rid of the rest of the RINOs in the Congress, nothing is going to change.

Sarah isn’t testing my patience. But of course any conservative woman would get the panties of the liberal left in a twist.

I noticed her face on Hannity as well. It wasn’t exactly sad IMO....it was more like burdened....and resolution......as if she has concluded that she will have to endure what is coming for the good of the country and everything she holds dear......the face you see on photos of men in a landing craft heading toward the beach.....she will do her duty but knows full well the price she will pay.

I continue to be amazed how people get played by the media.

Sarah doesn’t go out everyday and tease people with hints on whether she’s running or not. This is the media asking and speculating about her running on a constant basis, then trying to make it look like she’s leading people on and dragging it out. All of it is media driven.

Then the next story is about how Christie might jump in and that there’s plenty of time. Do you not see the three card monty going down here?

I can wait. In a world of 24 hour news and the internet, how much time do you really need. All she has to do is wait for the Perry effect to wear out, if it does.
