Rep. Issa lobbied for same kinds of federal loans his committee is now investigating

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) announced yesterday that his committee plans to investigate government loan programs to private corporations out of a concern that politicians might exert undue influence to help those who donated to their campaigns. But Issa had sought government loans in the past for similar clean-energy products in his home state. Letters show Issa lobbying Energy Secretary Steven Chu to grant loans to a Aptera Motors, a California-based hybrid car company; a San Diego-area biofuels consortium; and Quallion, a lithium-ion battery manufacturer in Los Angeles. In one letter, Issa writes:

The problem isn’t that the loans were given, per se, it’s that they were given with the obvious knowledge that they weren’t solvent enough to pay them back.

Unless Issa was asking for loans without qualifications, this is a nonstory.

And? He’s a politician. Did he steal anything the way the Dems did?

This reminds me of the Obama-bots on MSNBC referring to Issa as a “crooked car salesman” after some false story from the NYT tried to smear him. They’re still apologizing for that one. The RATS still haven’t realized they’re going to get called on their lies nowadays.

Congressman advocates for state and local interests. Scandal!

This investigation isn't about giving loan guarantees but knowing a company wasn't solvent and going ahead anyway.

If you read the article, Issa wrote letters of support for companies in his district who were seeking funding from the Department of Energy.

Three years later those companies are still waiting for a decision from the DOE while Solyndra went to the head of the line!

Even when liberals try to protect their own, they end up shooting themselves in the foot!

Artera Motors and Quallion - both of which appear to still be in business.

The democrats are like moles, they dig holes and the ground finally givesway. They said it would be brutal so I take their lies with a grain of salt.

Odummy wanted a legacy and it sank along with the corrupt money he gave them. They are trying to save his presidency but noone has told them it’s a DNR.

But did he use them for fraudulent or ciminal purposes?

I think THAT is the question.

Are police detectives who do banking disqualified from investigating bank robberies?

Funny, I did a Google search on the two named companies and didn't see anything where they have declared bankruptcy.

I’m sick of hearing about Issa. Every week or two we’re told he’s “investigating” this or that, what has been the result so far of any of it?

I’m not saying there’s anything to this story, but it’s just another reason to wonder about Issa’s competency.

Issa can't indict anybody. congress is a legislative branch, not a law enforcement branch. Only the Justice Department can get an indictment.

The best Issa can hope for is a bill of impeachment. That ain't gonna happen.

Issa is bringing this crap to light. That is about the best thing we can hope for. The Justice Department will stonewall. Maybe they can get a contempt of Congress citation issued but that's about it. They can pass laws, which Obama will ignore. I believe the Independent Counsel act was not renewed, so Congress cannot appoint an independent prosecutor without justice department approval.

geez louise - when will they all STOP?? Who made them so smart they can pick a winner in business? Stop giving money to companies to save them, to grow, them to help them. If they have a good idea let the venture folks take the risks of the loan...period.

There is a bill running through congress with 80 Republicans supporting the conversion of trucks from diesel to Nat. gas - stop it can you say ethenol?? Let the market decide - end government deals to business!!

More flawed MSM logic. The word "but" should be used when the second sentence contradicts the first one. In this case, it doesn't. So the reporter is trying to create a conflict which would only exist if Issa had exerted undue influence.

Lame, agenda-driven, reporting. (Or talk point copying... whatever)
