Didn't the Brits loose a frigate when the aluminum superstructure was struck by an Exocet missile during the Falklands war.....?

HMS Sheffield.

Aluminum superstructures where also used on the old DDGs and DLGs by the Navy. The fire on the Belknap was the reason the Navy went to steel superstructures for later ships.

HMS Sheffield.

Again

1. HMS Sheffield had a steel superstructure

2, All damage was from out of control internal fires

3. Externally, the ship lost a little paint. There was no superstructure or hull damage (other than the hole the missile went through)

Port side

Starboard side

(Until next time)
