Only one cruise experience. The day trip/excursions might hold more risks for Western tourists than the ship.

A good check list would be to note how many ship’s attendants there are per passenger. Most of the stewards are students - you seldom see the high-tech professionals.

There should be at least motion sensors and CCTV cameras along the ship’s railings. There is no way to account for every passenger’s whereabouts - those ships are huge.

Huge - and getting bigger all the time. We “lost” a friend on a Carnival ship. My wife and I plus his wife searched all the public areas on the ship for him and were unable to find him so we let the crew know. Three hours later he was found passed out in a stacked deck chair by the pool. Yep, he was more than a little inebriated and got tired so he laid down to rest a bit. But as far as we knew he had fallen overboard and was gone. Took the crew three hours to find him after we’d already spent an hour or more looking for him. Too many places to look on those huge ships.
