Hume: ‘Perry is about one-half a step away from almost total collapse’ Jeff Poor - The Daily Caller 24 mins ago

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s lackluster performance in the three Republican primary debates he has participated in thus far has many conservatives scratching their heads and wondering if he isn’t the dream candidate many thought he might be two months ago. But just how much trouble is his campaign in?

While analyzing the results of Saturday’s Florida Straw Poll on “Fox News Sunday,” Fox News senior political contributor Brit Hume said businessman Herman Cain’s victory may not mean all too much and that Perry’s lackluster performances recently may indicate his campaign is on the verge of “total collapse.”

“You can read it any of those three ways it seems to me,” Hume said. (RELATED: Hume on Obama: ‘Making a big speech right now is probably the last thing he should do’)

“I mean Perry really did throw up all over himself in the debate at a time when he needed to raise his game. He did worse it seems to me than previous debates. Romney was as strong as he’s been lately. He has clearly raised his game in reaction to the emergence of Perry. It’s been good for Romney in a way that one might not have predicted. Michelle Bachmann seems — I mean she was dead last with [a] tiny fraction. Look, Herman Cain was there. He tried hard in this. He gave a stemwinder speech. He is a marvelous stump speaker. It seems to me he gets a moment out of this, but I can’t imagine it’s going to last very long. Perry is about one-half a step away from almost total collapse as a candidate.”

He took the last step with the heartless comment. I can’t support a guy that insults people if they do not agree with his view.

The “”heartless” comment told me that Perry is nothing more pretentious than warmed over Dubya. And that dog won’t hunt any more.

I guess it’s either Cain or Romney.

Perry is about one-half a step away from almost total collapse as a candidate.

*****************

At the best he's only the two debates in Oct. 11 - 18 away from a failed candidacy, imo. Perry's had three debates and still can't give a coherent answer. He can turn it around in the next two or he's history.

I’m still ticked that the usually smart Brit made that idiotic statement that there was only room for one female conservative in the race - hey Brit, how is that prediction is working?

Another win win situation. There is no down site to a Perry departure, he can go home and fix those Texas sanctuary cities.

If I was looking for a leading actor for the next Bond adventure, I would not pick Perry for 007. That’s not what this is about though. We’re looking for a leader of the free world in real life, and Perry has not disqualified himself merely by stumbling over some words. This debate was not a good model of the actual qualifications for the job. Perry is not my first choice (Cain, Bachmann, DeMint, and Palin, not necessarily in that order lead Perry on my scale), but the debate stumble does not change his standing to me and should not to any realist looking for substance.

It’s a little much to say Perry is close total collapse. I think this is Romney supporter wishful thinking. Not going to be distracted, Romney needs to be out of this race long before Perry does.

A lot of people think it was wrong for Palin to sneak into Canada for healthcare but the Palin group never took issue with us and up to now Palin has yet to call us "heartless".

I think it was just a mis-statement from Perry. He may have been thinking about Obama's treatment of Israel at the time. I think Isreal was being discussed just before they went ti immigration during that debate.

Yes. And he also said that Michelle Bachmann has “no experience”. Didn't he also saythat Palin was not a “serious” candidate? Or, was that somebody else?

I lost my respect for Britt after his misogynous views on the female candidates.

Perry’s performance was more than simply stumbling over a few words....

He appeared unprepared, lacking focus and depth in is answers and without energy nor conviction.

In fact, it was awkward listening to his responses....which at some points, were almost incoherent. This observation is separate of the actual substance and his position on key issues which I have some problems with. But I’ve yet to see the perfect candidate with whom I agree with on everything.

This is from someone who was heavily leaning towards him at the beginning of the debate.

I’m willing to give him another look, but he is that much off his game again, it’s over for me....

Rats approve of him, Fox loves him, RINOs — practically the whole zoo is behind him. Nothing short of a grizzly will stop Romney. If Palin says she’s out, better get used to seeing, hearing, inhaling toxic amounts of Romney. :(

There was a time when we hung on every word of Brit Hume. No more. I think he got too big for his own self.

Must give credit to Bill Crystal. He was the only one who brought up Hermain Cain in a positive way this morning and kudos to Bill because Cain was MUCH MORE than what Brit tried to reduce him down to. Shame on you Brit.
HERE is the ticket we should ALL GET BEHIND.
CAIN/RUBIO 2012!!!!

Apparently, he’s right.

There is only one female candidate in this race.
