How many private sector jobs are eliminated by one taxpayer funded EPA job? The EPA has a job destroying multiplier effect that is only exceeded by the IRS.

While I share the sentiment, I'm cynical enough to think that the government will simply play a shell game with all those employees, moving them quietly to other agencies - maybe even scattering them to new "environmental justice" offices created at CIA, FBI, DEA, etc., etc... where they may end up with more power to interfere with our lives than ever before. Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
The federal government is ample proof that the Hydra was no myth. Cut off one head, two grow in its place. Full-scale starvation is the only thing that will weaken it enough to loosen its grip on us.

However, to kill off EPA properly you must rescind the enabling legislation as well as the legislation establishing the programs the EPA employees administer.
Do that and it doesn't matter how many EPA employees you have.

You bring up the largest factor in why it is so difficult to cut back the Federal Gov’t and to eliminate agencies. The Federal Gov’t is a huge affirmative action jobs program for minorities, women and gays. No one has the cojones to simply fire these people by the thousands and hundreds of thousands and say “Sorry but we have eliminated Federal Agency for Butterfly Development. We have eliminated the EPA and the Department of Education. You will have to find a job in the much dreaded private sector”
Some state and county gov’ts have been forced to layoff and fire people due to the rotten economy. Tell me when the Feds have ever done this
