Welcome to the party.
I can... its called cheap farm labor...
Maybe he’s heartless?
hmm I’m for the fence, against tuition but I’m also against e-verify.
I do agree with Newt that if we’re going to have such a system, it should be run by American Express or some other company that knows what it is doing and not by the same bureaucrats who file student aid applications in the Dept of Ed.
Um, yeah.
Perry is not a hard conservative. Sorry for those that bought into his momentary climb, but he’s a “squish” with just differing squishy parts.
He is Romney with less national experience, less money, and seriously less mano-y-mano communication skills.
There’s nothing commonsense about taking a position on something one knows absolutely nothing about.
I will be all for the border fence as soon as you explain how you are going to run a fence down the center of the Rio Grande without denying Texans access to US waters that they make a living on. You can not build a wall on the Texas/Mexico border, there is a really big river there and several lakes.
I could care less who you support. For me, the government is like stopping a speeding train. There is no one out there that is really going to change anything. Sure, superficial change around the edges, but nothing more.
Might I suggest a new candidate to support?
Perry is a RINO. I will never vote for him...
I am as dead set as anybody against any open-borders person being the Republican nominee.
But even I have problems with the idea that the federal government should presume to mandate that every business in the country must run all prospective employees through a government database before they may be hired.
Obviously, all federal government agencies should be required to use it and each state should require its government agencies to use it.
As to the private sector, I think what might work is instead of making use of e-verify mandatory, it is made a “safe harbor” so that if a business uses it and the database tells them an employee is okay, they are protected if it turns out that employee is not okay.
I don’t have a problem about his lack of support for a border fence. I think the logistical issue of a fence splitting the Rio Grande is a legitimate objection, agree with him or not.
I don’t know anything about him being against E-verify, so I am going to educate myself about that.
As for the in-state tuition for illegal aliens, I don’t support it. I think there are SOME honest reasons for supporting it, although I don’t agree with them. My big problem was his saying those not in agreement with him don’t have a heart. That was stupid, but also hostile, and I don’t like that.
I am not ready to throw in the towel on Perry, but I am in wait and watch mode.
Especially the latter. It's why most of them come up here in the first place -- free queso.
I was a half-hearted supporter at one time, but I don’t like too many of his positions. I’m moving on.
It doesn’t address the immigration problem completely, it cost the federal gov revenue (about 15-17billion) and it
is not perfectly accurate.
And many employers pay under the table.
Also, if it were mandatory for all US employers, it would put a huge burden (costs of billions) on Social Security Administration.
Business killed it in the Texas legislature over, in part, cost overhead.
Hutchinson was for mandatory E-Verify, I don't know if Perry offered a specific reason other than saying it wouldn't make a difference to what's happening in the country but I think that was a reference to the porous border.
All good points Mike, but there is much more. The man literally encourage this violent illegal immigration lawless attack. You never reward those who have no respect.
No fence will work. Waste of money, time. Others have expressed very well reasons why.
As for tuition, the kids already live in TX, require them to be residents in state 2-3 years, law. They get no special treatment, same as all who are residents. Pay their own way.
What are your ideas on how to secure the border?
