Doctor And AMA Split Over Contentious Issue Of ObamaCare

In fact, the AMA now only counts about 17% of doctors as members.

According to a new survey, the majority of doctors do not believe that the AMA represents their views and interests. Much of that dissatisfaction stems from the organization's support for President Obama’s contentious health care reform package.

That shouldn't be surprising. The AMA declares that its core mission is to "help doctors help patients." But ObamaCare undermines that pursuit by making life harder for physicians and driving down the quality of care available to patients.

The survey - conducted by physician recruitment firm Jackson & Coker - is a brutal indictment of both the AMA and ObamaCare. Just 13% of doctors agree with their trade association's support of the health reform law.

AMA supports obamacare, but most doctors don't, because they know it's "bad medicine", as in rationing and reduced access with no cost savings. They know that the government and bureaucrats shouldn't stand between the doctor and the patient and government shouldn't dictate what care is appropriate for individual patients.

The AMA will have to change their mission statement. Something like the National Education Association's might do the trick:

fulfill the promise of public education to prepare every student to succeed

Of course, your mission statement has to get a little bit more verbose, but that's what lawyers are for, know what I mean Doc?

I understand the majority of the AMA membership these days consists of people working in research facilities that are highly dependent upon Federal funding.

My Gf is an MD who works the Alzheimer’s ward and their hospital did try to push AMA membership. Only the hard-core Obamatards joined but the majority did not during the peak of Obamacare. Even in a lib city, doctors have the sanity not to join such an irrelevant organization.

Unfortunately, the AMA has name recognition among the general public. Until the majority of docs who do not support the AMA form their own publicly identifiable group, the public will feel they need to follow the AMA’s “advice”.

There already is such an organization, one that has opposed socialized medicine consistently in all its various incarnations since 1943. It's name is the Association of American Pysicians and Surgeons (or AAPS) and its membership includes some current members of Congress.

All my various doctors/specialists oppose ObamaCare.

How do I know?

I come right out and ask them.

Yes, they will take it on (they pretty much have to because of the conflicting decisions in the lower courts) and the final outcome will likely be determined by the tie-breaking vote of Justice Kennedy, barring any unexpected changes in the SCOTUS' composition.

One thing going for our side here is that the original plaintiffs in the case are the 26 states represented by their respective AGs, which amounts to a good amount of political clout.

Even if the SCOTUS ruling is unfavorable, there will still be a decent chance of complete repeal in 2013 if Senate, House, and the presidency are all controlled by the GOP.
