Never underestimate the power of "free beer." A traditional kegger probably would have drawn far more donations than dressing up in high heels.
I doubt the type of animals who commit sexual assault are going to be deterred by awareness. Knowing someone is going to put a .45 slug between their eyes if they try to assault them works better I believe.
