Workers are sleeping on the job at the U.S. Census Bureau and the agency is asking employees to stop napping in public areas of its Maryland headquarters.

A memo sent Tuesday said officials are fielding an increased number of complaints about colleagues “sleeping in public areas.”

More stories about employees on the federal payroll sleeping on the job. Don't worry, nobody got fired or anything. Just a memo.

How were they able to determine which employees were sleeping and which were working?

So, I guess they want their workers to sleep in non-public places? If I sleep at my job; I won't have a job when I wake up.

the job descriptions don't provide sufficient work to keep them busy and they are not allowed to help a fellow employee. This is true in any union shop, private or government.

Once you are unionized you lose control of your company or bureaucracy and the number of employees required to operate grows as does the amount paid for hours not worked. Union contracts are contrary to the American way of hard work leads to success.

The census carries out surveys the other 9 years. How do you think the unemployment rate is calculated?

Do some research.

“How were they able to determine which employees were sleeping and which were working?”

Well it’s a safe bet that if these are federal government employees none were working. Did you notice the memo said sleeping in public places like the lobby created a bad impression? I guess sleeping at your desk is fine.

All that taxpayer money wasted and nobody does anything about it.

Don’t you know that once a federal Government job is created it can never be eliminated?

C’mon... speed up.

I'm torn on this one...

On the one hand, they are wasting our tax dollars by sleeping on the job.

But since they are sleeping, I doubt they are breaking shit, or screwing up anything, since they are snoozing, so I'm between a rock and a hard place.

All part of the stimulus.

They are probably union, so their jobs are nothing more than ciphers for laundering money out of the public treasury and into democRat campaign coffers.

What kind of question is that? Everyone knows they just take the number of demo-rat voters and subtract ten percent [to account for dead voters/the mortality rate].....and wa-lah. /sarc

I guess that’s okay when you don’t count.

Seriously, they have nappy rooms in the non-public areas of the building.

Do census workers also give us CBO estimates and the PPI? The census is the census. It's temporary work, or it used to be.

“Seriously, they have nappy rooms in the non-public areas of the building.”

All federal employees seem to have rest areas where they can take a nap after there done hanging out and talking with their buddies. Seriously, I have never been in a federal office work area and seen a federal employee actually doing useful work.

The outside contractors and tech support are sometimes busy but thats just about it.

I used to go into a WI state gov’t building years ago.
One day around 10am, I observed a union thug(make that union slug) in full snore mode. He got paid the same, sleeping or “working”. Right out in the open, where all could see him, totally unconscious and snoring. Secure in the knowledge that he would never be fired.
