Workers are sleeping on the job at the U.S. Census Bureau and the agency is asking employees to stop napping in public areas of its Maryland headquarters.

A memo sent Tuesday said officials are fielding an increased number of complaints about colleagues “sleeping in public areas.”

Well considering they don’t really have to do anything for another 8 years they might as well take a nap.

They became tired on the job, so why not sleep on the job?

Isn’t “Government worker” an oxymoron?

“Isn’t “Government worker” an oxymoron?”

When someone said to me the other day I work for the federal government I said I thought federal government worker was an oxymoron. He just laughed. And he's a big liberal.

There are federal workers who do good work. I know contractors for the defense department who intelligent, hard working and conscientious. I know workers at NIST who are very intelligent and work very hard.

And don't forget the employees at the DOE who refused to approve the Solyndra loan guarantee and accurately predicted the company would go bankrupt.

There are good federal workers out there but so many of them do little or nothing and nothing happens to them.

The Census gives crime stats, unemployment, housing data, poverty data, etc...

In this case, I defend them. It would WASTE government money to train survey takers for every government agency (HUD, Dept of Labor, etc...)

Why not use trained survey takers for year round work rather than hire (and train) monthly survey workers to gather statistics in their area they live. Just sayin...

Yes, it’s intermittent work. Meaning no benefits, no union, etc...

If it's around Census headquarters in Suitland, there are a couple of chicken places and not much else. Are you sure they weren't food poisoned?
