I’m sure we’ll read about a homo/pedophile sex ring at one of the bases a few years from now.
They're there already.
I'd post a link to a recent article I wrote on CID and immigration officials busting a military policeman at Fort Leonard Wood who was arranging tours for sex with little girls in the Philippines, but then I'd risk getting jumped for “blogpimping” so I won't do it.
I am also aware of at least two lesbian sex rings involving female soldiers that have been ignored on “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” grounds. In one case, the people involved are now out of the Army due to retirement or voluntarily deciding not to re-enlist. In the other case, I'll be watching carefully to see if the people come “out of the closet” since I think they intend to make the military their career.
So far I don't have personal knowledge of man-on-boy (or woman-on-girl) stuff happening in today's Army, but I've heard too many horror stories about stuff that used to happen “back in the day” of a draftee Army.
None of this is attacking the Army. JAG and CID need evidence and proof that will stand up to a court-martial, and many criminals are smart enough to keep that from being easy to get, so the result is that people who want to be homosexual have stayed in the Army but avoided positions where in-depth investigations of their backgrounds would be needed for security clearance.
My personal prediction is that while lesbianism may get tolerated and some very tomboyish female soldiers may get away with being open about their “roommate” being their spouse married in Massachusetts, the Southern culture of our military is not going to tolerate male homosexuality very well. I suspect we'll be seeing considerable penalties outside the formal structure for openly homosexual male soldiers, and we may see some interesting “jury nullification” results if court martial panels refuse to convict soldiers of beating up homosexuals who were disrupting unit cohesion or hitting on other guys.
