Same with marriage. If we cannot rely on 5000 years of tradition to defend it, then we cannot prevent polygamy, mothers marrying sons or fathers marrying daughters (since proper medical procedures can ensure no kids result), tens or hundreds of people marrying each other, etc. It's not a slippery slope, it's a gaping chasm.
