Combatting Child Poverty

Family: Census data now show that a quarter of young children in America are mired in poverty. The media won't report on — and the president won't lead on — its root cause: an epidemic of illegitimacy.

The University of New Hampshire's Carsey Institute, analyzing U.S. Census data, alarmingly finds that from 2009 to 2010, 1 million more children entered into poverty, raising the total to 15.7 million poor kids, nearly a quarter of whom are below the age of six.

The Pew Hispanic Center reports a record 6.1 million Hispanic children in poverty vs. 5 million white children and 4.4 million black children — though, at 39%, black children suffer a higher poverty rate than Hispanic kids, at 35%. Both are well above the 12% rate among white children.

An analysis of the census data by Northwestern University's Center for Labor Market Studies, moreover, found over a third of the youngest families with children in the U.S. to be in poverty last year — a jump of "close to 12 percentage points to 37.3%, the highest poverty rate ever recorded for this age group dating back to 1967, when it stood at only 14%."

Overall, the poverty rate is at an all-time high of more than 15%, with Census finding 46.2 million Americans poor last year.

In media coverage of poverty in the Obama era, there's one thing we consistently hear little about: single parenthood as an underlying cause.

The country's official journalistic spinners give the illegitimacy crisis short shrift, of course, because they are happily convinced that the Sexual Revolution is here to stay.

In the case of President Obama, he may not want to disparage a key part of his political base.

I understand that the rate of illigitimacy of "blacks" during WWII was 7% . . . lower than that of "whites."

Now it's over 75% . . .

And who's the biggest sufferer? The "black boy." He has few if any role models in the woman-headed household, has no idea what a man does in a monogamous situation; sees men come and go with mom; is seldom given any domestic time for music, arts, or church; goes to government screwels where the little "black" girls are fawned over by the instructors and anything the "black boys" do well in class are generally ignored; he probably has been given a ridiculous "melodic" French sounding first name so it stands out on paper as "black"; lives in high crime areas with little protection from predators; and probably has older siblings who are 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation welfare recipients.

Good God Almighty, I feel sorry for them!

You MUST be a spy in the district & town where I teach....................amazingly spot on!!!!!!! Let’s see, these are some of the 2nd graders I have this year............Dalemonte ( pronounced: day-luh-montay), Artemas,Sir Derrius ( no, I did not make that up!)..............I could go on & on.

I really have not heard this stated in such clear terms; of course there will be poverty if you have many kids & no resources. The people it is draining is us, the taxpayer. I don’t see it stopping if my conservative state of Mississippi is giving out a million programs & benefits. They are coming out w/ a new program called ABC’s to deal w/ the 0-3 year olds who are living like vegetables at home. ( Don’t even get me started on my friends who work in early childhood & talk about home visits were the child is placed in a high chair in front of a blairing tv ALL DAY...........)

No, I live in northeastern Ohio, and teach at an adult medical vocational school where, whenever we get "black" students from the inner city, we usually have to work extra with them.

And, since most of our students are females, they too have those melodic but stereotypical made-up first names that narrow their job possibilities because of the racial stereotyping going on in the Human Resource departments.

A few years ago, at an employment agency I worked at, "blacks" and black sounding names were put in a file called "12". We all knew what that meant.

I have neighbors who are “poor”, and while I love them dearly, I can say that they live at least as well as I do. They have cellphones and flat screen TV’s bigger than mine. My car is a little newer, however, but overall, they are doing about as well as I am.

I work for a major ministry that works to combat poverty world wide. There have been quite a few jokes about poverty on this particular forum that are not funny. We can blame the parents (and they should be held accountable), but the kids are really suffering. The biggest thing these kids are suffering from is a lack of spiritual guidance and training. John Adams said our form of government would only work with a moral and religious people. The next generation as a whole lacks any semblance of these traits. As the Apostle Paul said, God will not be mocked, we will reap what we have sown.

Poverty in the USA will get much worse over the next century and it has nothing to do with the economy. The nexus of a pornographic culture, single parenting, rampant drug use, empahisis on entertainment, a horrible education system, etc, will keep poverty growing. When I look at what is happening in Britain and the feral society that is growing up there and realize we are just 15 years behind them, I shutter for western civilization.
