To: Interesting Times
The man who wrote the Maryland state song thought that Maryland was a Southern state. Roger Taney was from Maryland--he was considered a Southerner. The deal that resulted in the nation's capital being located between Maryland and Virginia presupposed that Maryland was part of the South.

Remember JFK's description of Washington--a city of Southern efficiency and Northern charm.

I fear this may be the beginning of the end: the productive displaced by the layabouts, the givers outnumbered by takers. Race may not matter, but culture does. Thank you Ted Kennedy.
