Mexican drug lords decry U.S. prison conditions
HOUSTON CHRONICLE ^ | September 30, 2011 | DANE SCHILLER

Big-league Mexican drug traffickers imprisoned in the United States are contending that unnecessarily harsh conditions - locked up alone in ultra-high-security confinement - take a physical and psychological toll and may violate U.S.-Mexico extradition treaties.

Their argument is based on the premise that Mexico might have refused extradition if officials knew the cruel conditions prisoners would face.If Mexico , would rather they remain over there, by all means ship them back and let them pay for their keep.Mexico's love affair with the cartels is quite evident

One point in the story — they can’t bribe their way out, or bribe their way into better living conditions.

Thus, cruel and unusual.

I’m trying to shed a tear, but am not able to.

How many minutes until Holder’s people
just give them DOBJ-approved-grenades to kill
Americans with, on their way out?

The conditions make sense to me. Break ‘em. Get information from them. Isolation means no way to continue operating their “business” from within prison as occurs too often with more open facilities.

These people are dealing in human destruction for huge profits that go to paying off others for more human destruction. Can’t be too lax with these sorts.

Whaty ever happened to the prisons on the Dry Tortuga’s. Open them up again

Find an Island place them on it. Place them on it to roam free. Supply food and water and let them govern themselves.

No guards, just boats making sure they cannot leave.

If they die a horrible death behind bars, it's fine with me. It's not like they cared about the families they helped screw up, the health issues, or the burdens drugs put on our criminal justice systems. I have NO mercy for this kind of scum. They only care because they GOT CAUGHT.

"Whiny thugs and murderers. Pathetic. Use as target practice."

Indeed. Your comment brings up another good point too...who is giving these useless thugs a platform for their voices to be heard? We should NOT even be reading about this.

Back to your crappy cells and STFU, scumbags. I've seen lives ruined by your "trade", and now it's YOUR turn.

You trying to start another Australia?

No guards, just boats making sure they cannot leave.

When I'm King of America, here's my plan for solving the over crowded prisons situation:

Put all the well armed guards on the outside of the prison, air drop food, medical supplies and small arms and ammo to the prisoners inside. By small arms, I mean small caliber pistols. Prisoners are known to be resourceful, this "over crowding" thing will soon work itself out.

United States federal prisons run an odd gamut.

Some are old and decrepit like USP Atlanta or Lewisburg and FCI El Reno....and can be very perilous prisoner wise.

Most fderal prisons are newer given the huge build up to house crack prisoners.

Some are brand new and state of the art and physically comfortable.

However there is one aspect that can be argued..not by the DuFarge crowd here of course..that some are isolationist to the extreme and for infinite time periods.

We have folks locked up now for decades with no human contact in boxes lit or unlit..some 24 hours a day either way....in Federal prison segregation or super max prisons.

They get no visits except from an attorney thru a video camera. They may or may not be allowed writing paper or books. A shower pulls up to their unit or there is one in the unit that is turned on weekly..maybe twice a week. No yard or maybe yard once a week..depending on various criteria.

I’m talking about for 90 days. I’m talking about for years and maybe even decades ..and decades.

They feed you and keep you warm or cool but you are literally cut off from the world even more so than in a Dumas or Hugo novel.

Myself? I’d prefer a Ivan Denisovich to that...being completely cut off with only your mind as company for years and years is harder stuff to me.

I don’t expect much sympathy from torches and pitchforks gang here but there are forms of cruel and unusual aside from physical pain.

If folks deserve decades of total isolation then why not execute? It’s cheaper...far cheaper. Again I am speaking of Federal Prison...states to my knowledge have no such bunkering housing like the Feds do.

think of spending the next 30 years in a doctors examination room with a hard cot and nothing else except strong flourescent lights that a sadistic guard refuses to ever turn off for months or years at a time...just you, the bed, a blankie and the walls...no human contact

your mind will work on ya

I believe the same thing would happen on that island.

I think I mentioned the Dry Tortugas. That is no Australia.

It is very possible that at least one of those Mexican Drug Lords was working for the CIA....and involved with Fast and Furious Guns.

Think it can’t happen??

Look up General Ramon Guillen Davila

If they earned their way in, then they should be suffering. You don’t end up in that sort of arrangement for unpaid traffic tickets!

Would they rather be locked up in a Mexico prison?

A US prison must seem like a vacation resort in comparison.
