My close friend in high school went into the Air Force and was going to be working near the nuclear missiles. I had to fill out a 5 page questionaire. This was back in the late 70’s. I believe they also came out questioned my father in person.

Exactly! So, how is it that Pollard got such a high level US govt clearance if his Stanford roommate knew way back when how he felt? How is it that it didn’t come up just in interviews with Pollard himself? It had to be fairly common knowledge among his circle of friends/colleagues.

In some ways, since 9/11 our security and govt positions with any sensitivity has become far tighter. A few years ago, my daughter was chosen for a sensitive govt job (as an employee of a govt contractor) and everyone was SHOCKED she couldn’t be hired because she couldn’t get the security level needed. She’d already worked at the Pentagon and was then serving as her local DAR’s Regent so no one foresaw any problem. Turns out, she was ‘rejected’ because she’d spent 2 years out of the previous 3 or 5 living overseas (in an allied country). But Pollard passed with flying colors. Go figure.
