Cain: Perry camp sign 'just plain insensitive' (Cain pulls the race card)
MSNBC ^

Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain criticized the name of a hunting camp once leased by Gov. Rick Perry's family as "just plain insensitive" in an appearance on Fox News Sunday. Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain criticized the name of a hunting camp once leased by Gov. Rick Perry's family as "just plain insensitive" in an appearance on Fox News Sunday. The name of the camp — "Niggerhead" — was first reported by the Washington Post on Saturday. The paper said the name was painted on a rock at the entrance of the property. Perry reportedly began hosting fellow lawmakers, friends and supporters at the secluded ranch early in his career. The offensive phrase has been painted over, but the Post's sources and the Perry campaign differ on when that was done. The Post reports that the name can still be seen through the paint. "My reaction is, that's just very insensitive," Cain told Fox. "[There] isn't a more vile, negative word than the N-word, and for him to leave it there as long as he did, before I hear that they finally painted over it, is just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country."

Apparently this lease was named many years ago after a field of prolific daisies in the area, which were colloquially called “******heads.”

My grandfather, who was legendary for his generosity and kindness toward the black farm workers he employed, called those flowers "******toes." That's what I thought of when I saw the camp name. It was a different time, 50 years ago.

This statement by Herman Cain is very disappointing.

We don’t need for Cain to be a “black candidate”.

We need for him to be a conservative American candidate.

Very, very disappointing this is.

In the very old days the “black-eyed susan” was also known as a niggerhead. This word has been around since before the Civil War.

Hmmm. I really don't like the fact that Cain is exclusively gunning for Perry. Supposedly, Romney is the the "frontrunner". Why is nobody attacking Romney? Are all these creeps in the tank for Romney? If so, the GOP is too corrupt to support anymore.

I'm getting more and more prepared to support a third party in 2012.

Waterloo, waterloo.

The scariest thing about this is it sounds as if Cain is playing to what he hopes will be his base.

Is he afraid that failing to react to this nothing story would make blacks or liberals ‘not like him.’

Time for your usual grownup stance, Cain. Laugh at it. Or ignore it.

Go Cain 2012! I am really proud of both Cain and Bachmann. Putting principles over politics is incredible. A Cain-Bachmann team would be phenomenal. I am still for Palin though!!!!!

Just how stupid can Perry be?

Perry's father painted over the sign and turned the rock upside-down back in the early 1980s. What more should Perry have done?

Cain dropped the ball here.

Cain has to get used to the lying, lynch mob press. As soon as he learns to recognize their scurrilous ways he will produce some great sound bites while smacking down the arrogant bastards.

Why is this an issue with either of them at this point? No one comes out looking good.

This is disappointing. PERRY’S FATHER PAINTED OVER THE ROCK A GENERATION AGO.

This is insulting and scummy.

I’m re-accessing my support for Cain.

Our country needs to move away from this sort of crap, not get excited and use it as a PC club.

Very disappointing of Cain.

So the first thread of Cain bashing wasn’t enough, huh?

Did you actually WATCH the interview rather than read MSNBC’s write up of it?

Cain was simply asked to the name and he said it to some it is racially insensitive. He gave his opinion and moved on. He did not attack Perry.

You do get that the word “nigger” is racially insensitive to some, don’t you? As a child, Cain grew up having to ride the back of the bus, go to separate schools, use separate restrooms and drink from separate water fountains.

What do you think he should have said? That he is fine with the word “nigger”. Seriously?

People watch for yourself. Cain offered his opinion but didn’t get sucked into bashing Perry like they wanted him to.

So to see it, the media had to turn the rock back over. Literally looking under rocks to try to find some dirt.

That this is the best they could find just reeks of desperation.

He endorsed Mittens in 08.

So did everyone else you nitwit. His endorsement was way after all the conservatives dropped out. His choice was McCain, Romney and Huckster.....not much to chose from. Of course since you are a Republican and not a conservative, you were thrilled with McCain and now will be thrilled with Perry.....A Big Barf!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was my first thought (about the name). The plants which have long stems were named that because the round black heads look like the closely cropped hair of a Negro.

Kids of my day would pull them up and chase each other trying to bonk each other on the head.

This is Cain’s 3rd attack on Perry and Perry has never attacked him back.

By the way, the only candidates that Perry has attacked are Romney, Ron Paul and of course, BO and you can’t blame him for that.

Is it there or isn’t it? The Race Card is where racism is normally invented. If the “N” word is in fact there that is not something invented.
