Speaking outside Trump Tower today, Herman Cain dismissed the idea that he was trying to paint Rick Perry as a racist by having called Perry insensitive yesterday when asked about the [N-word]head rock on property Perry had leased.
All I said was the mere fact that that word was there was insensitive. Cain responded. Thats not playing the race card. I am not attacking Gov. Perry. Some people in the media want to attack him. Im done with that issue!
The Perry campaign says that the rock was painted over years ago.
Cain asked reporters to focus on whats important to the American people rather than beat this distraction to death about a word that appeared on a rock.
I really dont care about that word, Cain added. They painted over it. End of story! I accept Gov. Perrys response on that.

Should have done something more like an apology than a brush off.
Sloppy and defensive attempt to walk back this issue. He can do better.
He missed a golden opportunity to apologize. Too bad.
Of course the liberal crackhead reporter that asked Herman Cain the question didn’t tell him first that the rock had been painted over. I suspect Cain would’ve had a different answer completely had the reporter not committed that lie of omission.
this issue should end
That’s how they brought down the other candidates, suck them into attacking each other and they both lose
It was a great opportunity for him to appear mature and gracious...and he didn't seize it.
Sounds like he handled it and it should be over. But, since he’s a conservative, he will continue to be attacked over it.
Where’s Cain on affirmative action? ;-)
Herman has jumped the shark.
The reporter knew the rock had been painted over, because it was a part of the original report.
Part of the point was that Cain popped off *apparently* without knowing the whole story. He should have demurred until finding out what was going on.
Cain’s willingness to play the race card is both telling and disappointing. I need a better explanation from Herman.
I accept this response from Cain. Let’s move on.
Now you are just complaining about his style. He obviously doesn’t like Perry so why should he apologize to Perry?
This really is a story about the media, not Cain or Perry. They are laying all these bombs for us to light ourselves because they know our side will turn on each other over something as little as a comment we may disagree with on the wording.
I’ve read several statements (don’t know if they are true) where in the commercial before Cain answered this question, they led him to initially believe Perry had painted the words himself.
Let’s quit eating each other on our side over stupid statements like this when we agree on POLICY issues. We are playing into the left and media’s hands.
Yea, Cain didn’t handle this the best he should of, but give me one candidate on our side (declared or potential) who does not have statements that if they had a magic time machine, wouldn’t go back and change?
When you sail with the wind instead of steaming under your own power, then you go where the wind goes.
Cain fumbled this one badly. He never should have picked it up in the first place.
This is an MSM problem. He is right to say it means nothing because in reality it doesn’t mean anything. Perry and his people need to start focusing on the MSM angle and it will go better for them. As long as they continue to play the reverse race card, Perry will look bad bad bad.
... and the last time I checked, I’m still heartless.
