Jackson Lee: Blacks not 'brainwashed' into voting for Democrats

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said Monday night that she is insulted by the suggestion of Republican fresidential candidate Herman Cain that black voters are "brainwashed" into voting Democrat.
"I have no quarrel with the First Amendment and one's right to speak as one desires," she said on the House floor. "But I take issue with Mr. Herman Cain's very insulting and demeaning comment on a whole body politic of people, African Americans, when asked a question why they make… political choices as they've made. And he chose to suggest that African Americans are brainwashed."
Cain made the remark last week on CNN, and said blacks have been "brainwashed into not being open minded, not even considering a conservative point of view."
Jackson Lee said she took issue with his "very unfortunate choice of words," and said that historically, blacks voted Republican in President Lincoln's time, and voted with Republicans "for a number of years." However, she said that since then, they have voted their interest, which has aligned then with Democrats.
"So Mr. Cain, get your facts right," she said. "We are not brainwashed and I am absolutely insulted by your ludicrous interpretation of African American intellect in choosing their political party."

Maybe Ms. Lee could clarify how a 16 percent unemployment rate serves the black community.

When over 90% of a group votes for the same party every election it is not because they are thinking about it.
Jackson Lee is certainly right in her particular case.
Impossible to “wash” something that isn’t there.

It was the Democrats that blocked the Voting Rights Act and it was Democrats that had a KKK Member in its ranks up until just a few years ago.
I agree they are not ‘brainwashed’ They are racial and generally vote as a block. Just as the Black Caucus and all other forms of ethnocentric allegiance. Yet we play this game that their race has nothing to do with it.

Vote for money or work for money...I’m thinking these fine young adults have been taught to vote for it.
Ms. Jackson-Lee concluded her statement with, “Herman Cain must listen to Rush Limbaugh, along with 10 million other mind-numbed robots.”

I'll not pick on her for that one, the memory of Lincoln certainly did influence blacks' voting trends in 1870. A minor quibble, considering the source.
I think that goes for anything. Why are Republicans courting Rubio? Why does Barney Franks district keep reelecting him?
