Something like a 10 nation coalition that would pursue the extermination of Israel, maybe?

Of course he does, he's Russian. The only thing that took the Russian desire for such an empire off the table was that single lifetime long spasm of stupidity called the “Soviet Union”. Had Russia not collapsed they'd have been in control of large parts of what was the Ottoman empire anyway and probably wouldn't have fallen apart for a second time in the 1990s. One thing for sure, the Europeans wouldn't have gotten the blanket protection that cost the US taxpayer so much over the past sixty years.
Once Europe gets over their current stupidity and foreordained financial collapse, they can put the alliances of the past back in place and alternate between tussles with one another and with Russia over who will be the top dog like they used to. Just as it often has in the past, it all comes down to how preoccupied the Ottoman Empire is with expanding itself throughout the Muslim world rather than wrangling over Western or Northern borders.

When I read this, the first thing that came to my history-laden mind was “The Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere” of 1940. Tyrants always need both a boogeyman and a need (”Lebensraum”) to keep the proletariat in a calmer mood.

Knowing what little I do about Russians, I do not think this “free movement of labor” idea will go down very well with the average Russian. I’ve heard they harbor openly hostile attitudes towards anybody from the “stans” if they show up and try to live in Moscow.

"new post-crisis global development models"
How pathetic. Russia did NOTHING to help the economic growth the world has seen over the last 30 years, that was ALL down to the US.
A reduction to ~90% of the enormous gains made, and Russia thinks they can talk about it?!?!?
We'd still be in the ******* economic dark ages if Russia had any say in the last 30 years of global economic development.

Wow. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes. While I may not necessarily see a new Russia as necessarily ‘evil’ (in some ways Russia has been becoming more Christian and capitalist), I am all the same fully cognizant that this turn of events 100% DEFINITELY requires a strong US and a strong US president. Especially considering that the new ‘Eurasian Union’ will not have the inate problems that plagued the old Soviet Union (e.g. a socialist economy), and that at the same time an even bigger potential threat (China) is also a growing capitalist economy (with a communist political heart) and certain designs. If cloning works a certain chap called Ronald needs to be brought back, because the way the world is going it is looking more and more ‘interesting.’ A weaker US, a far stronger China, and now a Russia (that has been getting quite rich for the last decade) now calling for a ‘Eurasian Union.’
