That's a rather generous assumption.

They never 'lost' track of these weapons because they never attempted to track them in the first place. That was not the mission objective of Operation Gun Walker.

Indeed it is a rather generous assumption. I would simply call it what it is: a lie.

From an earlier Fast and Furious thread:

We need to shoot down this meme whenever it surfaces. This operation was not BOTCHED. It was UNCOVERED.

Until then it went perfectly according to plan. And that plan did not include tracking. What it did anticipate were a few deaths on both side of the border and an easy path to stricter gun control laws - the real goal of Fast and Furious. For Obama and Holder those deaths were just the collateral damage necessary to achieve their goal.
