2 Times a Charm -- Rick Perry Takes 2nd Straight Straw Poll
Townhall.com ^ | 3rd October 2011 | Townhall Presidential Straw Poll

Posted on 10/04/2011 5:02:00 PM PDT by shield

Despite mixed reviews from his debate performances, Rick Perry continues to lead the GOP field. Amassing over 30% of the vote Perry took the September Townhall and HotAir Republican Straw Poll.

Ron Paul's support stayed steady, taking 2nd place for the 5th time since we began polling in January. He has won the straw poll three times. Sarah Palin has also won the poll three times, but not since March.

Herman Cain finally stopped his slide, gaining slightly this month. Michele Bachmann lost support for the 2nd straight month. After peaking at 13.6% she has lost over half of her support, coming in at 6% this month. She had the biggest slide this month at 4.4 points. Rick Perry had the biggest gain with 3.3 points. After bottoming out at 1.4% in July, Newt Gingrich has modestly increased his support for two straight months. He still hasn't completely recovered from early campaign mishaps, nor has he seen the level of support he received back in March when he took 11.75% of the vote.

For the most part however, there were no radical shifts in support this month. This could be an indication that supporters are getting more comfortable with their particular candidate. As we get closer to the primaries it will be very interesting to see if support shifts or if one candidate starts to consolidate the vote.

Thaddeus McCotter dropped out of the race and was subsequently removed from the poll.

An internet STRAW POLL no less. I thought straw polls meant nothing per Perry supporters.... Hmmm.

Worse than that, here's how to manipulate the hell out of one of these "straw(man) polls"...

  1. Drop dime on Townhall for a poll
  2. Get notice of polling time
  3. Spam email list notifying known supporters
  4. Close poll soon thereafter
Then blare by any means possible, "We WON!!!"

Muchas g'bye-byes Ricardo!

I did not have any exact amount at all and did not mean to imply it was only $10 million. Sorry if I did that. I had heard $10 million PLUS. And yes, I did hear it would be from only six weeks of campaigning since that is how long he’s been in the race and not the full 3 months we’ll see from the others who were in that long.

I was watching his Perry for President site the last day of September and was amazed to see his little ticker going up and up and up that day!

I guess we’ll all be keeping out eyes out on all the tallies for the 3rd quarter donation reporting!

Anyway, thanks for providing the poll numbers from townhall.com here.

It sure makes more sense with Romney down where he is. I’ve never met anyone who likes Romney except for the media outlets and their journalists. I guess Romney’s camp is possibly the one commissioning some of these other polls then? That’s OK if you don’t know, and don’t feel you even have to reply to that. Guess I was just thinking out loud.

IF that is the case then all polls should be in chat. I am following the lead by Herman Cain’s poll at CBS. It is front page news. So if this is moved...Herman Cain’s also needs to be moved.

Okay. Guess this is some good news for Perry.

I see Romney and Cain are everywhere. The Governor needs to make a few appearences and answer some questions. Otherwise his campaign will go nowhere.

Palin isn’t even running so why is she in this poll?

I just saw another estimate of 15 million and also saw the 10 million. I thought I read his fund raising numbers would be out the end of the week.

Yes, I think these numbers are probably more inline with the real numbers. I agree Mittens numbers are false...and the way Cain is being pushed by the MSM, I'm started to believe the same about him.

This is an Internet poll one easily rigged, as this one was. If there is a poll of the same nature for Cain ask to have it moved. But to try and compare this Internet poll to a professional poll is more than childish.

Don’t start believing the bad BS being put out by the MSM...against Perry. Perry is in Texas prepping for the debate, he’ll be in Iowa next week.

CBS was an internet poll and so is FoxNews. You haven’t downplayed those polls.

GREAT POST....

I still like him the best.although I am very fond of Cain.

Perry will need a VP with more foreign policy experience..although Perry/Cain would drive the Dems nuts.ha.

The mainstream media does not influence me. Constructive criticism is always good, however. This has been on my mind for a while now. I understand Perry is prepping for the Dartmouth debate.

At the same time Romney was on with Huckabee and I heard he made a visit to msnbc, along with a visit to Hannity. Cain has been all over the place. Aside from that Derry NH townhall forum last Friday, it seems the Governor has taken a hiatus from all public appearances. After Florida, he's been incognito. I don't see that as a good startegy. Just my opinion.

[These people act like we don’t know how email works, take your little email list, copy all, say go here and vote.]

You are mistaken, I'm on the Perry ping list and have NEVER received a FReepMail to vote on anything. In fact I didn't even know about these polls.

On the other hand, a month or two ago I accidentally received a FreepMail from Palin supporters that was asking everyone if they had any success on digging up dirt on Perry about a certain topic!! They forgot that I was supporting Perry.

So - I can see what goes on behind the scenes, and it isn't pretty. I can honestly say that the Perry supporters “I know” here do not connive behind the scenes.

I also remember a big thread about a Hot-Air Poll that Palin won and they were sooo excited.

I was never a Perry fan. My preface was for Palin, but lacking her comittment for a run, I was for Cain. No longer. Cain has shown his true colors with his playing the race card against Perry. It was a race card no matter how many supporters will deny it. He has shown that he knows how the MSM works, but in this case, he went hook, line and sinker with it.

People freepmail each other over polls? I never got the Perry memo either, then. Gee, just think, he won the poll without a lot of Perry FReepers knowing about it. Hmmm. Wonder what that could mean....?

Of course, considering the poll results in general - Ron Paul in second place! - I rather doubt if there's much validity to these results. That goes for all of them, including Perry.
