2 Times a Charm -- Rick Perry Takes 2nd Straight Straw Poll
Townhall.com ^ | 3rd October 2011 | Townhall Presidential Straw Poll

Posted on 10/04/2011 5:02:00 PM PDT by shield

Despite mixed reviews from his debate performances, Rick Perry continues to lead the GOP field. Amassing over 30% of the vote Perry took the September Townhall and HotAir Republican Straw Poll.

Ron Paul's support stayed steady, taking 2nd place for the 5th time since we began polling in January. He has won the straw poll three times. Sarah Palin has also won the poll three times, but not since March.

Herman Cain finally stopped his slide, gaining slightly this month. Michele Bachmann lost support for the 2nd straight month. After peaking at 13.6% she has lost over half of her support, coming in at 6% this month. She had the biggest slide this month at 4.4 points. Rick Perry had the biggest gain with 3.3 points. After bottoming out at 1.4% in July, Newt Gingrich has modestly increased his support for two straight months. He still hasn't completely recovered from early campaign mishaps, nor has he seen the level of support he received back in March when he took 11.75% of the vote.

For the most part however, there were no radical shifts in support this month. This could be an indication that supporters are getting more comfortable with their particular candidate. As we get closer to the primaries it will be very interesting to see if support shifts or if one candidate starts to consolidate the vote.

Thaddeus McCotter dropped out of the race and was subsequently removed from the poll.

GALLUP October 4, 2011: Perry Plummets, Cain Surges in Positive Intensity

PRINCETON, NJ -- Rick Perry's image is suffering, with his Positive Intensity Score among Republicans familiar with him down to 15, and below 20 for the first time. Meanwhile, Herman Cain's score is now 30, the highest for any candidate this year.

The results are based on Gallup Daily tracking from Sept. 19-Oct. 2. Gallup calculates candidate Positive Intensity Scores as the percentage of strongly favorable opinions minus the percentage of strongly unfavorable opinions of each candidate among Republicans and Republican leaners familiar with the candidate.

The downside movement in Perry's scores follows recent campaign developments, including poor reviews of Perry's performance in the September debates.

Cain's scores reflect his surprising win in the Sept. 24 Florida straw poll. The net result is that Cain has established a wide advantage over any other Republican candidate in Positive Intensity Scores.

Perry (15), Mitt Romney (13), and Newt Gingrich (11) are well behind. Rudy Giuliani (19) and Sarah Palin (13), whom Gallup tracks but who have not made decisions regarding entering the race, would also trail Cain by a considerable margin. Rick Santorum (8), Bachmann (5), Paul (3), and Jon Huntsman (-1) -- have much less positive images among Republicans familiar with them. (Excerpt) Read more at gallup.com ...

He is way to liberal with the illegals in his state...does not care enough about protecting American jobs and putting pressure on Mexico to have a revolution of sorts or aomething!

That is another good one, you do not communicate with anyone to organize anything but you know what they think. Voodoo I guess.

Of course, you don’t bother to get your facts right and join right in on the MSM lies.

IMHO 'we' are wasting time and energy. There's too many 'candidates'.

Huntsman, Santorum, Newt, Ron 'Crazy Uncle' Paul and (weep) Michele My Belle need to go away (sorry Michele, it's over).

But especially Crazy Uncle. He's a certified kook and a side-show for the MSM.

I communicate with people here and I create graphics which are posted all over the web. What do you do other than run other people down?

My “voodoo” is better than your “doo-doo”.

Dude, I am sorry, I speak 9 languages, and your post makes no sense in any of them.

A political form? Well a form is something you use to cast cement in, so I assume you are telling me your opinions are cast in that rock hard substance known as your skull.

You hold up your hand and tell me to read between the lines? I ain’t a gypsy here. Try something that most of us call communication instead. You may be surprised how well it works.
