Earl Warren, another liberal icon, also favored rounding up the Japanese Americans. Other groups committed to fighting race discrimination including the NAACP, the American Jewish Committee and the Communist Party either supported this policy or remained silent. On the other hand, Senator Robert A. Taft (R-Ohio), the nation's leading conservative, spoke out against Japanese internment.
