Republican Clark Durant has raised a hefty $750,000 in the six weeks since he entered the Senate race in Michigan, his campaign announced Tuesday.
"I am truly humbled and encouraged by the outpouring of support," Durant said in a statement. "There is momentum building to shake up Washington. Our supporters are sending a strong message that they want the American way, not the Washington way."
Durant is running in a primary against former Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), who is considered the favorite to take on Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.). Because of his experience raising money for the Cornerstone Schools, Christian charter schools he helped found in Detroit, Durant was expected to have the connections to be a strong fundraiser. He is also personally wealthy and could have contributed to his campaign.
Hoekstra is known as a strong campaigner but a weak fundraiser. Two weeks ago his campaign predicted he would bring in between $400,000 and $500,000 in the three-month fundraising quarter that started in July. He has yet to announce his fundraising figures, but campaign manager John Yob tweeted Tuesday afternoon that he had outraised Durant.

I’d be very careful supporting Clark Durant. He comes from a family who have been very passionate about taking conservative positions, but you’ll never see him on the front lines. He’s learned how to play the game. Michigan would be better with Hoekstra.

What is the reasoning Durant has for going after Hoekstra? I can’t figure it out from the article.
Someone wants to be a U.S. Senator. This isn’t about Pete Hoekstra.
I didn’t know how damaged Pete was after losing the Gov election. I thought that may have had something to do with it.
Any candidate has a decent chance of beating Stabenow. Michigan is a mess right now and she’s a big part of the problem.

As far as whom I'm backing, it's going to be whomever I think can beat the airhead Stabenow. I haven't decided yet. Hoekstra overall isn't bad outside of a couple of bad votes in the early 90's and his recent TARP vote. He's not Tim Walberg, but he's more good than bad, and very good on life issues. He was the establishment pick for governor and would have been a lot better than the RINO Snyder, who won by a split primary vote. I've been told that Durant is very conservative, as is Glenn.
I posted this more to show that Stabenow is going to have a credible opponent than anything else. As far as I know, Durant's reasoning is simply that he wants to be a senator like the others running.

“(Detroit Tigers - First major league team to clinch division title this year.)”
Go Tigers! Go Lions!
I’d love to be able to say that “What is good for the Detroit Tigers/Lions is good for America” (sorry, General Motors).
I like the idea and it feels good so what the hell, I might as well believe it.
That’s not bad. I am hopeful that Hoekstra can make a race of it.
This is a different candidate, Clark Durant, former State Board of Education President.
I see no reason to support him instead of Pete Hoekstra.
